The original Hummmers were designed by A M General Corporation, a subsiduary of AMC and were built in Mishawaka, Indiana, in respone to a request from the US Army for a High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle, there were four competing bids and A M Generals response was to an all new vehicle which was delivered as a prototype in less than one year. With the required number of prototypes delivered to the Army proving grounds in April 1982.
After testing A M General were awarded the first contract for $1.2 billion dollars to supply 55,000 Humvees by 1985, the first vehicle was delivered 2nd January 1985 with the others following and the contract was extended for a further 15,000 units. The military Humvee went on to earn its spurs during the first Gulf War and has proved effective ever since.
A M Genral had always planned to build a civilian version and in 1992 the first civilian Hummer went on sale.
In December 1999 A M General sold the brand name to GM but continued to build the vehicles, with GM becoming responsible for the distribuition and marketing

The new 12th & Imperial Transfer Station (now Transit Center) was completed for the new Euclid Line in 1986. It replaced the standard station design that had opened with the Trolley in 1981. The new Transfer Station included a bus plaza for transfering to and from buses.
Above this station, the Metropolitan Transit Development Board's new headquarters building would be built a few years later.
The Transit Store is MTS' outlet for transit information and pass sales in downtown San Diego. The storefront was formerly located at Fifth Avenue and Broadway, but moved down to First Avenue and Broadway in the mid-1990s. These photos show its earlier location. Here, a Route 7 bus picks up passengers along Braodway in front of The Transit Store.

Model year 1978 MAN articulated bus. San Diego Transit led a national design consortium that developed the specifications for these articulated buses and, in 1978, was one of four cities to integrate the German MAN coaches into their fleets.
1979 built AM General trolleybus 820 stops on Snyder Av at 29th St in South Philadelphia. This was the last route to run with AM General trolleybuses with service ending on June 30, 2003. New trolleybuses were purchased for routes 59, 66 and 75 in Northeast Philadelphia but not for the two south Philly routes. Photo Sept 18 2000.
Kibbutz Sasa saves the lives of countless American troops with its advanced armor technologies. Ambassador Shapiro saw this first hand on January 30 when he visited the Plasan factory in northern Galilee. The Ambassador saw the full range of products, from reactive armor, to purpose built vehicles, to body armor. Plasan has delivered more than 8,000 armor kits to U.S units on active duty.
Israel is a world leader in armor technology and the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the dedication to quality expressed at Plasan.

Their unique theater program called Bereshit l'Shalom brings young people together from all sectors of Israeli society. Jews, Arabs, Druze, or Circassian, all use the art of theater and dance to express the importance of working across society's boundaries to interact with others based on similarities, not differences. This successful program has performed throughout Israel and Europe.
