The M939 Truck is a 5-ton 6x6 U.S Military Heavy Truck, the basic cargo versions were designed to transport a 10,000lb cargo load over all terrain in all weather. Designed in the late 1970's to replace the M39 and M809 series of trucks, it has been in service ever since. The M939 evolved into its own family of Cargo Trucks, Dump Trucks, Semi-Tractors, Vans, Wreckers, and bare chassis / cabs for specialty bodies, 44,590 unis in all were produced.
In the late 1970's the M809 series 5-ton 6x6 Trucks, based on a 1949 design, were becoming old and mechanically dated. It was still a useful type, with 35,000 in service. A ''Product Improvement Package'' was developed to rebuild and update the M809 series into the M939 series. A new cab and hood are spotting features, but there were also other improvements.
In 1982 AM General, who built all M809's, began rebuilding M809's into the M939 and M939A1 series at their South Bend, Indiana plant. They would rebuild 24,100. A follow-up model, the all-new M939A2 series, was produced by Bowen-McLaughlin-York / BMY in Marysville, Ohio. They would build 20,490. In 1991 the M939 series was replaced by the all-new design M1083-M1091 Medium Tactical Vehicles.
All models of the M939 share a common basic chassis, cab, hood, and fenders, the basic truck is a 6x6 Heavy Truck. Early M939's were rebuilds of M809 vehicle chassis with a new automatic transmission, transfer cases, cab, and hood. Suffix –A2 are new production with later model Cummins engine. The vehicles have a wide variety of configurations and weights. Note that the motor and tyre specifications, along with other improvements, apply to the A2 versions (and A1 versions) of each base model listed below. There is an M928, an M928A1, and M928A2.
Cargo Truck M923-M928 :-

The M927 (M928 w/winch), with an extra long wheelbase, had a 20ft by 7ft long box. There was no drop side version. Side racks and overhead bows with a canvas cover were standard but no troop seats were fitted.

The M101A3 is a single axle, two wheel, steel frame trailer designed to be towed by the HMMWV. It is used to transport general cargo. A welded steel body is bolted to the frame. The body is equipped with a tailgate and mounting brackets for cargo racks and a frame for a tarpaulin cover. A steel A-frame is bolted to the frame with an attached one -position lunette, landing gear and two hand brake levers. The M101A3 is designed to operate on all types of roads, cross-country terrain and in all weather conditions. There are no restrictions on the M101A3 for movement over primary and secondary roads; however, it is restricted to a maximum speed of 15-mph cross-country when towed by the M998/M1123 series trucks or other prime movers.

This M1123 belonging to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) was photographed shortly after disembarking from the USS Whidbey Island at the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City, North Carolina.
The M1123 HMMWV variant replaced the M998 and M1038 variant HMMWVs in Marine Corps service. The M1123 provides light troop and cargo transportation. Available in two and four person configurations, this model can accept installation of troop seats and other modifications. This variant can be used as the vehicle platform for mobile communication systems as well as other mobile alternate command posts.
The pictured vehicle has a Marine Armor Kit (MAK) designed for the 2-door, 4-door, and armament variants of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle A2 (HMMWVA2). The kit provides complete 360o protection as well as overhead and underbody protection. Options for the kit include air conditioning and mild steel overlay panels for the doors and rocker panels. The air conditioning unit is seen here installed on top of the crew cab.

The MV-1 is a purpose built handicap-accessible taxi conceived in 2011. Its original manufacturer, Vehicle Production Group, shut down in 2013, but AM General stepped in to acquire VPG's assets and has restated MV-1 production. The MV-1 has been approved for use as an NYC Yellowcab, and is the first purpose-built taxi to gain such approval since the iconic Checker Marathon. I didn't see any of these in service as yellowcabs, but several of them can be found in the outer boroughs in service with taxi operators. This one was in Far Rockaway (Queens).
I remember reading about these taxis, but did not realize that they had actually gone into production. This one appears to be used for medical patients with mobility problems.
