The coupe version of the AMC Matador was designed by Richard A. Teague provided a boost to the fourth-ranking US car companies' sales when it appeared in 1973. Product-placing in the James Bond movie The Man with The Golden Gun helped further, together with participation in NASCAR racing.

AMC went to the well again in the early '70's, dropping a 360ci V8 into its compact Hornet 2-door sedan. The muscle car era was dying out by this time, though -- potential buyers were scared off by skyrocketing insurance rates for anything that could light up its rear tires.

Exactly one year ago I photographed this remarkable American car for the first time. This is what I wrote then:

At first I didn't recognize this model, because there was no brandname badge visible. So it was a mystery car for me.

It happened to be an American Motors Corporation (AMC): a Concord, rare in NL, and as a compact car, probably also rare in the US.

The Concord series was a replacement of the AMC Hornet, on which it was based.

The Concord series was designed by industrial designer Dick Teague (USA, 1923-1991).

For model year 1979 the Concord received a new vinyl roof design. Another typical feature for 1979 was the 'waterfall' grille.
