Chameleon Corundums - CFL White Light
FOV: 3" wide
From a friend comes this collection of synthetic corundum (Aluminum Oxide). They show different colors under various kinds of white light due to impurities creating different absorption bands. This property has been called the "alexandrite effect" since chrysoberyl (var. alexandrite) displays similar color change.
Shown under white compact fluorescent light.

Just started another pair of toe-up socks on two 24" circulars. Wee pin marks the start of a round, at this point for increasing on one rnd, work even on the next until I get it large enough to start up the foot.
Some indicate that "2-at-a-time" are problematic. Shown here, due to the stripey KnitPicks Felici yarn, the pink/purple strands are coming from down at the cast-on - they're short, and really could be weaved in now if they are in the way or confusing! (Actually it's easier to weave now than to dig down to the inside of the toe later!) You can see that they are heading down towards the narrowest part of the front/toe area. For those that prefer not to weave and cut at this stage, you can always wad up the tails and stuff them into the toe. As your work gets longer, the tails will stay put!
The green strands are the two working yarns. I keep the two balls of yarn either in a small "walk-about" bag with a drawstring top, or if I'm at home comfortable on the couch, I keep a ball on either side of me. Yes, the yarns sometimes get tangled if each time you turn, you always do it in a clockwise fashion. Try turning one way, and next time turn it the other - minimizing the twists. If they do get too twisted, just hold the working yarns up in the air with the sock toes dangling - they'll untwist just like we used to do when we were kids playing on a swing. Twist the ropes all up and then let it all run out. No problem.
Features: gold, silver, rare stones combined with large diamonds; elaborately shaped pendant consisting of a small diamond bow with a round spinel in the middle and large spinel pendant in a lacy diamond frame is suspending from the central spinel
Origin: made by jeweller Leopold Pfisterer on 10 April 1764 for Empres Catherine the Great
Jewellers refer to the word 'esclavage' meaning a small necklace. This type of jewellery came into fashion in early 60s of the XVIII century. They were worn in the following pattern: a wide lace or velvet ribbon was wrapped around a neck and over it an esclavage' was pinned or clasped. Various shapes of esclavage were depicted on the portraits dating back to that period of time. They are also exhibited in museum collections. The one concerned is a luxurious bow measuring 11.5 x 11 cm (4,5 x 4,3 in). Its frame is made of gold and silver but is practically invisible as it is entirely covered with diamonds and spinel. Spinel is a group of rather widely spread minerals. Alexandrite and chrysoberyl are examples of this kind of gems.

PCAGOE Team's February challenge theme is "Gemstones And Flowers Associated With Your Birth Month".
I was born in the month of June. The traditional gemstone is Alexandrite, the modern birthstone Pearl. The flower associated with June birthdays is the rose.
I created a polymer clay pendant using an Image transfer of a vintage Victorian valentine featuring deep pink and lavender roses. The rose colored oblong beads are also polymer clay, which I embossed with a floral stamp and treated with eggshell acrylic paint before baking. I added Alexandrite Czech glass cathedral beads and Mother of Pearl oval gemstones. The rose beads are capped with antique brass floral bead caps. I used 2mm antique brass spacer beads and finished the necklace with an antique brass branch toggle clasp.
Vote for your favorite February challenge entry at www.pcagoe.com beginning Feb. 1 through Feb. 7. You may be one of 5 voters chosen at random to win a beautiful polymer clay item created by one of our member artists.
