Today I did something I haven't done for a while. Tended to another hobby of mine: jewelry design.
Yes, it sounds ridiculous, strange and silly, but if you've been a contact or if you've kept track of my photostream you've probably come to expect the ridiculous, strange and silly.
So anyways. Yes. I do like to design jewelry occasionally. It goes hand in hand with my penchant for drawing, something I've done since a kid, but who hasn't?!
In fact, this is kind of what I want to do for a living one day. I'd like to get my GIA certification to be a Graduate Gemologist, and then maybe take a couple other courses to be a Jewelry Artist (there's another name for it from the GIA but I can't remember it!) After, perhaps working for a couple other jewelers, I'd like to start my own firm, dealing in higher-end designs (but of course) in mainly platinum and 18 karat gold, using precious gems (diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald) and rare and exotic stones like demantoid, spessartine and tsavorite garnet, photochroic stones like alexandrite, color-change sapphire and other rare stones. Paraiba tourmaline, etc. If things go well, I'd love to have a branch store or two - one maybe in Panama, the other somewhere in Europe. If things go well, that is.
But for now, I just dream a little. This is a design for a brooch in platinum, set with old-mine cut Ceylon blue sapphires and diamonds, with calibre cut rubies. I was signing this when the shutter snapped.

The Blue Sapphire is king of Sri Lankan gems. The 400 carat Blue Sapphire called “Blue Belle”, which adorns the British Crown, is from Sri Lanka. The beautiful star sapphire misnamed the “Star of India” displayed at a New York’s Museum of Natural History.
Besides rubies and shapphire, the illama soil also bears cat’s eyes, alexandrites, aquamarines, tourmalines, spinels, topaz, garnets, amethyst, zircons and variety of other stones.
Sri Lanka, the island known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean lives up to its nickname as a hotbed for a variety of gems. Sri Lanka is home to 40 varieties of Gems out of 85 varieties available in the whole world. Gems of Sri Lanka have found there way to many a court all over the world since time immemorial.

Chameleon Corundums - LED White Light

From a friend comes this collection of synthetic corundum (Aluminum Oxide). They show different colors under various kinds of white light due to impurities creating different absorption bands. This property has been called the "alexandrite effect" since chrysoberyl (var. alexandrite) displays similar color change.

This was a labor of love and a lot of fun to create these photos. I purchased these skins from the Skin Fair 2022 and wanted to show you a comparison of them on each of three different Lelutka heads. I am wearing no makeup in any of them. I did forget to make sure my eyelashes matched, and I had to adjust the chin depth for Kaya a little, but other than that everything is exactly the same except the skins.

1. My favorite color is green, blue and black or close seconds.
2. I have 3 sisters, I'm the only boy besides my Dad.
3. I love the weather. I'm fascinated with it. I even use to be majoring in meteorology before I decided I hate calculus. lol I spend my summers tracking hurricanes and watching thunderstorms.
4. My major is now Broadcast Communications-Radio/TV
5. I am currently taking Digital Photography 2 at school. Best class ever.
6. I first started doing photography in 2006, I just got my first SLR this past December.
7. I'm a singer and performer. I'm currently in a production of Guys and Dolls at my college.
8. I love the beach. I'm a Florida beach boy and I couldn't imagine living away from the water.
9. Panama City Beach is my hometown. It's known for the world's most beautiful beaches and the spring break capital of the world. lol
10. I'm usually a very reserved person. I'm not a crazy goofy party animal.
