I GOT ENGAGED!
I'm completely over-the-moon ecstatic!!! That's my ring that's visible in the picture; no blood diamonds for us; it's an oval-cut alexandrite center stone (my birthstone) flanked by two emeralds (the beau's birthstone), set in a white gold band with filigree work on either side. It's beautiful and I love it; it's very "us." :D
[don't mind the bandaged arm...I busted my wrist and was waiting to hear back about x-rays.]

Who doesn’t want blossoms even in winter? Now you too can have blossoms with these beautiful earrings! Made with Abalone carved flowers and accented with vibrant shades of mystic gray quartz, mystic prasiolite and alexandrite topaz, this pair is definitely eyecatching for any winter bloom.
The earrings hang approximately 2” (5.08 cm) from the top of earwire. All metal is 14kt gold-filled or vermeil (22kt gold heavily plated over a sterling silver core.)
If there's one thing I'm lacking in photography (and by "one thing" I mean thousands of essential skills that I'm missing) it's proper lighting skills. I've been reading up on lighting and thought I'd try some fun stuff with reflective metals. This is my high school class ring . . . and tassel. That 98 might as well be 1898. It's a Jostens classic with a faux alexandrite gem. The color changes from this deep purple to a more reddish purple to almost green depending on the light. It's not my birthstone (which is Garnet, *snore*) but it's pretty.

Shown here are the transmission spectra for a synthetic corundum specimen. It displays the Alexandrite effect and becomes different colors under different kinds of white light.
This composite image shows the spectra from a 53W halogen bulb, an LED bulb and a blue LED bulb.
Synthetic ruby transmission is shown for comparison. The spectra are combinations of JAZ and USB4000 (higher resolution blue) measurements, joined at 510nm.
The transmission pathlength for the ruby is 80mm while that for the purple boule is 10mm.

Natural High Clarity - Honey Cats Eye
Chrysoberyl cat's eye is a gemstone variety of beryllium aluminum oxide which exhibits optical effect known as 'chatoyancy' that contains large numbers of fibrous inclusions can produce a " Chatoyant " a line of light across the surface of the stone that orients perpendicular to the included fibers. that resembles the slit eye of a cat, hence the name 'cat's eye'.
The Gemstone Chrysoberyl is an aluminate of beryllium with the chemical formula BeAl₂O₄. The name chrysoberyl is derived from the Greek words "chrysos" and "beryllos". Its meaning is "a gold-white spar".
It is known as a hard and durable gem after Sapphire. Chrysoberyl is an orthorhombic crystal mineral with 3.5 – 3.84 specific gravity and 8.5 hardness according to the more hardness scale. It is a Biaxial (+) mineral with refractive indexes nα=1.745 nβ=1.748 nγ=1.754.
Chrysoberyl Cats Eye can be found colors such as green, yellow, brownish to greenish-black, colorless, pale shades of yellow, greenish Yellow, Yellowish Green, Honey Brown, Reddish Brown, Orangy yellow, Greenish Brown, Blue.
Also, Golden Yellow Chrysoberyl is called "Ceylonese Chrysolite" as a trading name.
The Chrysoberyl Alexandrite is a color change variety upon the nature of ambient lighting. It changes the color green to brownish red or green to purplish-red in the incandescent light from a lamp or candle flame. However, Alexandrite's good color change stones are extremely rare. also, Chrysoberyl alexandrite can be found with a chatoyancy future. It is rare and expensive.
An interesting feature of its crystals are the cyclic twins called trillings.
Also, Chrysoberyl can be found with the chatoyancy feature. Translucent yellowish chatoyant chrysoberyl is called as cymophane. Also, Chrysoberyl cat's eye is found in colors such as yellowish-green, green, honey brown, grey.
The chrysoberyl gemstone or mineral can be found in Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, India, Madagascar, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Myanmar, Mozambique, Norway, Russia, Spain, USA, Zambia.

The transmission and fluorescence of a boule of synthetic corundum made as imitation alexandrite. The colour-change property is achieved by the addition of about 3% of vanadium in the form of V3+ to sapphire.
The image panel on the right shows, from bottom to top:

254nm (Hg) excited fluorescence
368m, (LED) excited fluorescence
The bottom spectral panel shows fluorescence excited by the 368nm LED. The orange line spectrum illustrates the orange fluorescence seen at the base of the boule.
He is the palest of the Silvers in the litter and he has his Dad's sad look. In the video he pulls his feet up and looks very uncomfortable but he was quite happy just to lie there!
These UV-IR transmission measurements were made with a pathlength of 80mm for the ruby boule and 10mm for the purple synthetic 'alexandrite' type corundum. The factor of four difference in the transmissions between 700 and 2500nm is partly a result of this different transmission depth.
This is a gorgeous charm bracelet. You can add your own charms to make it unique and your own. I love the the soft colors and the changing colors of the Alexandrite.

Okay okay I know I am not in this photo, but I actually pulled out the DSLR and my favorite macro lens so thought it was worth being the star of the show today. Beside's this is my 365 and I make the rules.
This is my Mother's Day gift to myself. I bought it off etsy from www.etsy.com/ca/shop/emilyjdesign . It is an eco-conscious sterling silver ring with an alexandrite stone (to represent E's birthday) on the front. Inside it is engraved with the words, only love today. This little mantra I learned from the book Hands Free Mama. It's about self love and only having love yourself each day. Treating yourself with love and respect. I absolutely love it!! Simple but not without powerful meaning.
