Also known as the Cabbage White, the Large White – Pieris brassicae – is one of the most common butterflies throughout Europe, Asia and North Africa. Its caterpillars are the bane of vegetable gardeners everywhere because of their love of cabbage and other similar leafy vegetables. Very similar to the Small White, the distinguishing marks are the two spots on the wing (the second being only just seen in my picture) and the darker wingtip being more elongated rather than just on the tip as with the Small White, again the extension just visible. Seen, just as it was about to take off, near Carr Mill Dam, St Helens.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge blocking the late afternoon sun and sitting proudly above the maritime version of the Australian Flag.
I'd been wanting to try this fun shot for a year or so when I saw another version.
The motion blur was very easy to achieve with a long exposure and a remote shutter release. The hardest bit was ignoring odd glances from other shoppers!
Baking chimney cakes at a Budapest christmas market.

There's a beautiful, pink flower in my garden.
A beautiful, pink rose that blooms every year.
Its petals are as pink as the color of strawberry ice cream.
As soft as a baby bird's feather.
It smells of sweet perfume,
And the scent of clean clothes.
There's a beautiful, pink flower in my garden.
A beautiful, pink rose that blooms every year.
The stem is as green as string beans.
As strong as a piece of metal that will never break.
It stands there straight as can be,
Only moving when strong winds run by.
There's a beautiful, pink flower in my garden.
A beautiful, pink rose that blooms every year.
Its leaves are rough and pointy at the ends,
With many designs going every which way.
Its thorns are sharp like the blade of a knife,
Looking threatening as they stick out of the stem.
To me,
This beautiful pink rose symbolizes the beginning of Spring.
The beginning of a new day, a new year.
