The Dark Hedges, in my homeland of Northern Ireland are rightly famous for their beauty and, not just for their featuring in the Game Of Thrones series ... the approach to our home does not quite have the same allure but, it is particularly lovely at this time of year ..!
Also known as the Cabbage White, the Large White – Pieris brassicae – is one of the most common butterflies throughout Europe, Asia and North Africa. Its caterpillars are the bane of vegetable gardeners everywhere because of their love of cabbage and other similar leafy vegetables. Very similar to the Small White, the distinguishing marks are the two spots on the wing (the second being only just seen in my picture) and the darker wingtip being more elongated rather than just on the tip as with the Small White, again the extension just visible. Seen, just as it was about to take off, near Carr Mill Dam, St Helens.

Another view of a large old farm field bathed in soft evening twilight of the golden hour. I suspect portions of this field were once used as a tree nursery and/or Christmas tree plantation. Some sections are currently used to grow corn and hay. Surrounded by homes and roads, this beautiful old farm field-meadow is one of the last remaining sections of undeveloped farmland adjacent to the municipality of Dellwood in Washington County, Minnesota U.S.A.
Equipment used: Sony A77II [ILCA77II] with Sony SAL AF DT 18-70mm lens on tripod.
