This beaver picked a prime piece of land for the view alone. It was quite active even with my intrusion, as was building winter food supply behind the lodge. This is now totally ice, a week later. Thanks for looking and may your weekend be bright!

The Statue of Liberty is always a dramatic and imposing view on the New York City skyline. I used a slight monochrome and B/W blend to highlight her features.

As you can see the Kingfisher's eye is protected by a membrane (knipvlies in Dutch). Despite the membrane the Kingfisher can stil see under water.

I am not a bird photographer, and never will be. I don't have the patience to stand around and wait. That said, I was out in my back yard in the snow with my camera. I had my macro lens on my camera, shooting close up tulips in the snow, etc. and suddenly saw this woodpecker in a tree. What could I do with a macro lens? Well, apparently, quite a bit, seeing as he stayed still, except for all the pecking he did. I took a couple of shots, then moved closer....and so on. I noticed he'd pecked holes all the way around the tree and started a new row, and the sap was running out. No wonder he's called a redbreasted sapsucker. I had to crop the image quite a bit to get him large enough.
No, this is not going to make me want to photograph birds :) Just if they come to me.

A Clockwork Orange is a part of a creative series of butterfly images. This one was created from images licensed from Shutterstock. The concept and creative work is mine, and the title comes from the film of the same name. This image turned out to be a study in combining colors as well.

Savannah sparrows breed in Alaska, Canada, northern, central, and Pacific coastal United States, Mexico, and Guatemala. The Pacific and Mexican breeders are resident, but other populations are migratory, wintering from the southern United States across Central America and the Caribbean to northern South America. These birds inhabit open grasslands, tundra, shrub land, meadows, wetlands, and agricultural fields. They can also be found on beaches, sand dunes, salt marshes, and estuaries.
Savannah sparrows are social birds and typically spend time in pairs or family groups in the breeding season. However, before the winter migration, they assemble in large flocks and become very energetic and noisy. Their flight call is a thin 'seep' and the song is a mixture of 'chirps' and trills. Savannah sparrows are diurnal; they forage by day on the ground or in low bushes. Particularly in winter, they can also be found in grazed low-growth grassland. They feed by walking along the ground and occasionally run or hop to snatch their prey. They will also make short flights to catch insects in mid-air.
Found this Winter visitor along Joe Overstreet Road, in Osceola County, Florida.
