Officially, "King George of Poděbrady Square" in Czech, "Náměstí Krále Jiřího z Poděbrad".
"Cheb (German Eger, in the Sudeten German dialect of Cheb Egha; obsoletely also Heb) is a town in the district of the same name in the Karlovy Vary Region, 40 km southwest of Karlovy Vary and 5 km from the border with Germany on the Ohři River, from which it is derived from the German name of the city. The first historically preserved mention of Cheb, the central city of the entire former Chebsko, dates from 1061. Until the end of World War II, the majority of the population was German, and Cheb was an important part of the Sudetenland. After the end of the war, the German residents were displaced and the town became largely depopulated. Approximately 32 thousand inhabitants live here, which makes Cheb the second largest city in the region after Karlovy Vary. There are seven primary schools, two secondary schools, one practical school, two grammar schools and the Faculty of Economics of the University of West Bohemia in Cheb. The main industries here are engineering, textiles, metalworking, construction, woodworking and food. The neighboring municipalities of the seat are Okrouhlá, Třebeň, Pomezí nad Ohří, Nebanice, Tuřany, Odrava, Lipová, Libá, Františkovy Lázně, Waldsassen and Schirnding.
Bohemia (Latin Bohemia, German Böhmen, Polish Czechy) is a region in the west of the Czech Republic. Previously, as a kingdom, they were the center of the Czech Crown. The root of the word Czech probably corresponds to the meaning of man. The Latin equivalent of Bohemia, originally Boiohaemum (literally "land of Battles"), which over time also influenced the names in other languages, is derived from the Celtic tribe of the Boios, who lived in this area from the 4th to the 1st century BC Bohemia on it borders Germany in the west, Austria in the south, Moravia in the east and Poland in the north. Geographically, they are bounded from the north, west and south by a chain of mountains, the highest of which are the Krkonoše Mountains, in which the highest mountain of Bohemia, Sněžka, is also located. The most important rivers are the Elbe and the Vltava, with the fertile Polabean Plain extending around the Elbe. The capital and largest city of Bohemia is Prague, other important cities include, for example, Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, Kladno, Ústí nad Labem, Liberec, Hradec Králové, Pardubice and České Budějovice, Jihlava also lies partly on the historical territory of Bohemia." - info from Wikipedia.
Summer 2019 I did a solo cycling tour across Europe through 12 countries over the course of 3 months. I began my adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland and finished in Florence, Italy cycling 8,816 km. During my trip I took 47,000 photos.

V Marketplace has also invited local nonprofits to add to the festivities. Firing up their grill, serving delicious sausages and hot dogs, will be the Fire Explorers and the Yountville Fire Department. Manning the booth where cool beverages can be found will be the Native Sons of the Golden West and the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Operation Love will be on site collecting donations to provide care packages to our deployed armed forces stationed in harms way. All proceeds from these sales go directly to the nonprofits.

Funky Red Barn looking Chipotle restaurant in Menifee, California's Countryside Marketplace, a large shopping promenade featuring Super Target, Kohls, Best Buy, Justice, Lane Bryant and other shops, in the future they will add Aldi and a new Krispy Kreme.
Other shops I couldn't get photos of due to time restrains are Lowe's Home Improvement, BevMo!, Staples, etc.

Season of Summer Light
Week 29, Saturday
As I promised couple of days ago (see here), today I'll take you to the Finnish marketplace. The reason for this expedition is simple, you really haven't seen Finnish summer if you haven't visited the marketplace. To understand the importance of this subject, you first need to know something about the Finnish society. Today Finland is a typical information society, with all the technological schemes like broadband connections, databases, social media, mobile phones, tablets etc. But it has not always been like that. Just a few decades ago at 1970s Finns moved from countryside to cities and left their typical path of life as farmer behind to become today's telecommunication engineers. Our way of life has changed very rapidly in couple of generations and this change has molded in its own way the Finnish culture and the meaning of the marketplace. You see, in today's Finnish information society the marketplace has a special meaning. Not only Finns buy their vegetables, sausages, berries and potatoes from the marketplace at summer, the marketplace also allows us to experience our countryside roots again. While modern Finn might feel a certain loneliness living in his flat and surrounded by electronic gadgets, he can always go to the marketplace and meet a big handed and sweaty farmer with his beautiful daughter offering, not only their earthy potatoes and carrots, but also the connection to original Finnish communality. You would be surprised to see how quiet and distant Finns turn into talkative and social extroverts when they sit at the marketplace eating sausages and drinking black coffee with each other. And the summer is of course a special time of the year for this kind of social activity, very much like in agrarian society in the past. One could even say, that in a contradictory way the development of information society maintains the important meaning of the marketplace. It's part of our history in a small and convenient way - and if you ever visit Finland in summer you should definitely head to the marketplace to encounter the real Finns.

Went to the market the other day, and stuffed my face on lots of bbq!! Lol, and some angry Cantonese lady yelled at me for taking pictures of her vegetable stand... it was so funny, I kept apologizing in Mandarin... but it's not like I wasn't going to buy anything! ;)

This 123,455 square foot Kroger Marketplace store opened on April 6th, 2016. This is my first time at one of the Marketplace stores since I generally hunt down smaller or dated Kroger stores and Kroger doesn't have stores in my area. Here is the previous location this store replaced www.flickr.com/photos/fanofretail/11229403274/; oddly enough the old location was open 24 hours, but the new one is open 6am to 1am...
The store seemed very similar to Giant Eagle's Market District concept, except it had more general merchandise items and didn't have a full cafe / restaurant. One thing I did notice is that the left side was very busy, but the further to the right side I went, the store got much emptier. The far right side with apparel, seasonal, toys, and pharmacy was just about a ghost town... I imagine, if other Marketplace stores have similar shopping patterns, Kroger will tweak the concept and possibly ditch certain departments like apparel.
I can see why Kroger would want to branch out into selling general merchandise; the supermarket industry has lower margins and general merchandise has higher margins. The marketplace stores don't seem to (in my opinion) offer enough departments like toys and apparel to become a destination for those types of items. Also, I seriously doubt those types of items are really impulse buys that people will buy when they are at a supermarket. On the other hand, the store does seem good at merchandising other items such as kitchen or general household merchandise that do go along with groceries. The store concept seems to be in the gray area between supermarket (grocery and related items) and supercenter (a store that has pretty much everything), which may not be a good place to be.
Overall, the Marketplace concept seems pretty good though.

One very interesting find in the dairy -- actual Marketplace-style category markers! While they're pretty bland, at least they use the distinctive Marketplace decor font, and anything that's not the super-bland 2012+ category markers that the rest of the store (and pretty much every Kroger-owned store anywhere) uses is nice to see!
By the way, that woodgrain panel in the background is the back of the "Beer & Wine" sign seen a few pictures back. It's really nice to see the attention to detail put into pretty much everything in this decor package!
WEEK 38/Construction, Week 59 – Hdo Kroger Marketplace Opening Weekend
The next best people-free shot I could manage was this one, looking down the rear actionway toward the back right corner of the store. Due to all the curious shoppers, I likely won't get any good interior photos until the crowds die down and people-free shots become manageable. Thus, you won't see much from here from me in the next few months. However, that's okay because I still have a backlog of interior photos from the old store to share before I get to any from here anyway, haha!

A similar view to one l_dawg posted from his own first visit to this store: looking down the bread aisle toward the front end (I think his was taken from further down the aisle). What immediately caught my attention here was the bench in the foreground!! That really must say something about just how large this store is, that a bench is a necessary item to have XD

This section of the complex never took off and Gander Mountain was the only thing ever opened. Gander Mountain closed in early 2017. It appeared that the complex was meant to be mixed use with retail, office, and possibly industrial businesses. Another part of the complex just going by the name MarketPlace did open with a Super Kmart, Outback Steakhouse, and a hotel (currently Days Inn). Super Kmart was closed and demolished, so only two businesses remain tucked away on this hill. Chevron once planned a regional headquarters on this hill, but the plans never took off.
Maybe this area has been overbuilt; right around this site is a major mall, over a dozen big box stores, a number of shopping centers, office parks, and industrial parks. Another issue seems to be that this site is not very visible from the highway. Also, the single access road to the complex looks a lot like a residential road, not one to a shopping center...

Thailand is known for its many markets in every corner of the city. This is a morning market where people not only buy groceries to stock up their kitchens but also a place to socialise with neighbours. Walking across this market, people are very friendly and will talk to you like you have known them since the kindergarten.
WEEK 3 – Hdo Kroger Marketplace, Set I
Beginning today and spanning five nonconsecutive photosets total, we're taking a tour around the all-new* Hernando Kroger Marketplace!
* - Okay, so “all-new” isn't an accurate descriptor there. In fact, it's about darn time that I got to this stour, considering I covered the construction of this building (as well as the subsequent demolition of the original, non-Marketplace Kroger store on this site) very extensively... only to stop coverage after the store's official grand opening event one year ago this month, with no additional interior photos besides the fewer-than-ten that I uploaded over the course of that linked album. So now, it's way past time to change that and give this place some (overdue) love!
