#142/365 Post Process Fridays episode #17. This week featured photo is from my buddy Ian (Wedlock). He captured several awesome shots of what looks to be a old school house, which instantly reminded me of "Little house on the Prairie" (the best show ever!). I went back and forth on how I was going to process it. In the end I decided to do something completely different than I ususally do for PP fridays and went with a vintage look. I'm still editing on my laptop so I'm not a 100% sure on the tone but make sure you look at it large because you can't really tell how nice the house looks in the small version. Hope everybody has a great friday!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي‎ "Dubai Tower") is a supertall skyscraper under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, despite being incomplete. Construction began on 21 September 2004, and the tower is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy by September 2009.

The building is part of the 2 km2 (0.8 sq mi) development called "Downtown Burj Dubai" at the "First Interchange" along Sheikh Zayed Road at Financial Centre Road (previously known as Doha Street). The tower's architect is Adrian Smith, who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006. The architecture and engineering firm SOM is in charge of the project. The primary builders are Samsung Engineering & Construction and Besix along with Arabtec. Turner Construction Company was chosen as the construction manager.

The total budget for the Burj Dubai project is about US$4.1 billion, and for the entire new "Downtown Dubai", US$20 billion. Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the CEO of Emaar Properties, speaking at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 8th World Congress, said that the price of office space at Burj Dubai had reached $4,000 per sq ft (over $43,000 per m2) and that the Armani Residences, also in Burj Dubai, were selling for US$3,500 per sq ft (over $37,500 per m2).

If you do invite me to certain groups, would you kindly do that as a separate post? I usually like to later cleanup my post to keep the comments and leave off those graphics so the image load faster for those who doesn't have high speed connection.

#139/365 A little candid of my daughter strolling down one of he isles at Toys R Us. I never realized how pink it all is in there!

I'm still stuck editing on this laptop. I have all my color profiles set, yet for some reason when I upload to flickr my colors desaturate. I have it setup exactly like my work computer and desktop and still this problem. Darn this thing! HPPT!

Ok, something different today. Enough of these shots with old abandoned places and creepy green tiles :-) They will continue soon enough.

I am currently running out of new material and ideas. That's not too bad, because I still have a vault full of pictures from Russia, New Zealand and USA :-) This one is another one from Chuzhir, Lake Baikal, Irkutskaya Oblast, Russia, Asia, Earth....

We spend there four nights. And I always tried to capture the sunset... On the first night it was already dark when we reached the little island in the lake (Ol'chon). The other 3 nights I always tried to get the photos, but usually we were too late... Though this day I was just about in time to get a photo of Kai before the sun was setting behind the mountains. (We had this one place that we went to all the four evenings)

"I could stay there for a lifetime"

Better days with brighter sunshines are coming. Everyone's "Woohoo !" !

- This title also tries to make a comparison between the ephemeral poppies, and our human condition, which is ephemeral as well, but in another way(s)... -

This afternoon, i came back home earlier than usual. After two fruitless hours in front off my tv, i decided to look out the window.

The weather was cloudy and we almost couldn't see the sun. I had to wait before going outside with my camera.

And there was not much to do inside. Actually i didn't really check out what i could do because i wanted to breathe some refreshing and sunny air, and maybe to take some pictures as well...

But i hoped this was not going to last long.

Twenty minutes later, without asking myself more questions, i opened the door and jumped outside.

Sometimes you easily become aware of things, habits you'd always like to live with... Your will can change everything without a lot of efforts.

I decided to ride my bike if ever the clouds would have liked to wring themselves.

Though despite that i put rain clothes into my bag, nothing happened.

In fact, i couldn't know that the bad weather that persisted this entire week was going to change into a beautiful and sunny afternoon allowing me to find my smile back.

At that moment of the day, when the sun suddenly appeared from behind the clouds now disapearing, i found a wheat field full of poppies. The first one this year !

I couldn't even dream of it !

The horizon was immense, i couldn't see anything but wheat, and wheat, and poppies... And the sun was wonderfully reflecting on the wheat dancing with the wind... The sun was not so hot on my skin, and sometimes the wind was a little cold. But it was an intense feeling, only the fact of being here, lost in the immensity.

I could stay there for a lifeftime.

I only stayed two hours, or more. I don't know. In fact i don't even remember.

I was feeling alive for the very first time this year :D

#130/365 Well kind of my first family portrait (usually it is just the kids). I've was planning to do a solo portrait of the wife but figured it was more appropriate to show the kids. I had several great shot of the kids but in the end the mom has to look the best! Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there!

I'm sure this is an image that has been done a million times but when I shared it with a select few, Clayton said "Interesting? Hell, yes!" and as the last cliché I posted hit Explore - I'll give it a shot. I love St. Pancras for three very different reasons. The architecture of both the train shed and the station are stunning, it signifies excitement at arriving in the bustling metropolis that is London and lastly happiness that I'm leaving and heading home. Having said that, it's almost always a place I rush through and I wanted to try and show the transient nature - I assume you've all seen one of these but I've never done it before - a great exercise for me.

Four images handheld with a little Casio P&S, Hugin'd and Photoshopped. Especial huge thanks to Jeff for suggesting a dodge & burn (interesting discussion on that technique on Clayton's most recent) - quite a difference.

Hey, what about Onions? Golden duck, first delivery goes for a boundary then he gets three dismissals in one over and 5 for 38! Magic. Whether you're in the West Indies or not - have a great weekend!

I've just noticed a grammatical error in previous versions of my little footer below - sorry - and how come no-one mentioned it?

The main reason I am on Flickr is to be inspired by other people's work and receive constructive critiscm on my own, please leave me a comment - however small - and don't be afraid to criticise. Thanks

Laos is the most laid back country I have been to. You cannot take it at your pace. You have to go with the flow - meander around the town on foot, take a boat down the Mekong, get up early in the morning to watch the monks receive alms. This is as close to the romantic Indochina you can get.

The Mekong is born 4000km from the sea, on the Tibetan plateau. More of the river courses through Laos than any other SE Asian country - the entire country parallels its course. It runs through most of the major cities and is a key source of livelihood (direct or indirect) for the country.

Here's a photograph of my horse "Sam". He is around 21 years old now.. and still just as handsome! No one has ridden him in over 10 years and he is quite content at being a "pasture pet". He has a wonderful personality and loves apples, pears and carrots... of course.

Notice the beautiful dogwood blossoms in the background. They have been gorgeous this spring... pure and white.

Thank you so much for your visits to my stream. I have been so busy the past few days and have gotten behind on my comments. I am blessed to have such wonderful, loyal friends...like YOU!

a very long time ago (before email) a friend told me that he preferred to write letters over using the telephone. when i asked him why, he told me to imagine all the consecutive positions of a letter in space -- and to visualize them together. they'd make a kind of worm-like object in space. then imagine it touching the author's hand on one and and the recipient's hand on the other.

he felt that, in that way, he was indirectly actually touching his friend's hand on the other side.

that's the first time i visualized time as a fourth dimension -- if it is. many types of images come to mind on this theme.

there was a video someone had made where he actually gathered people of every age -- the youngest was newborn and the oldest was in her eighties, i believe -- lined them up without clothing, and filmed as his camera want past them. i've searched to find it, unsuccessfully at the moment

i took this at monastiraki station yesterday (geotagged on its flickr page) after a wonderful mayday with friends, strolling around the foot of the acropolis, and having a delicious lunch at monastiraki's cafe avissinia. it helped that i had some ouzo (on ice, with lemon soda. yum.)

this is a 10-second hand-held exposure.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

La Brière, or Grande Brière is drained by the last tributary of the Loire: the Brivet, which flows into the estuary to the border between the towns of St. Nazaire and Montoir de Bretagne.

Its territory covers 490 km ², of which 170 km ² of wetlands in the heart of which the Grande Brière marsh Mottière alone covers 70 square kilometers, which has 21 municipalities.

Barges and cottages: two peculiarities of the Brière

The cottage is home to traditional roofs in that area of swamp. At a time when this area was transformed into island each winter, the stubble was the only resource available to cover the roofs of houses.

Brière Park, anxious to preserve this precious heritage, continues its work: it is free to offer its consulting services and architectural allocates regional aid for construction and renovations of cottages.

The places to discover the cottages: the village of Saint Kerhinet Lyphard, fully restored by the Parc Naturel Régional de Brière in the early 70s, the village of Saint-Kerbourg Lyphard, Mayun at the Chapelle des Marais, l Island Fédrun in St. Joachim, etc ...

Tanah Lot Temple, Bali, Indonesia

Pura Tanah Lot (Tanah Lot Temple) is Hindu Temple.

Located about 20 km from Denpasar, the temple sits on a huge offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Tanah Lot means "Land in the Middle of the Sea" (in Balinese language) is a famous rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali.

Note: It is a fantastic place to view beautiful dramatic sunsets. Every day at dusk, tourists throng the area to witness the magnificent silhouette of the temple against the glowing horizon.
