Con esta toma doy por concluida la serie de Los Urros.
No me convence demasiado por su composicion, el exceso de peso en el lado derecho y el apelotonamiento de elementos desequilibra la imagen. Los tonos y el procesado sí son de mi agrado.

On this photograph the Comments were deactivated......this was to see how a brighter copy looks here but with the bad connection , there were glitches and it showed up as public instead of private.
This is a brighter version of the photograph posted earlier. Printing the image shows up the pictures to be dark and the sheer power and dynamism that a back lit screen that shows high contrasts even in the darker areas tends to deceive the eyes.
So to get a new print done, this photo has been brightened a tad in the paint brush area and a bit of the face.

The beautiful town of Ermoupolis is the capital of Syros as well as of the entire Cyclades. It is a commercially and culturally developed sea settlement of a great architectural beauty, a great reminder of the brilliant past of the city. This town was founded by the refugees and Greek revolutionaries who came from various parts of Greece, such as Chios, Psara, Kassos, Crete, Asia Minor, to the French-protected Syros to escape the massacres organized by the Turks during the Greek Independence and after the Revolution of 1821.
Houses are built very closely, one on the top of the other, surrounded by rocky slopes which were a protective fortress of great efficacy against the pirates and all the other enemies who threatened the island during 1200 AD, when the settlement of Ano Syros was built. To build this marvellous town, many European architects came from various countries like Germany, Italy and Greece, and joined their talents in a glorification of artistic and architectural beauty.

We find our hero, Maximillian O'Connor making a run for his life down escape pod corridor "B" while a heinous creature of unknown biological origin snaps at his heels. It's stench triggers a gag reflex.
..."They said it was contained... that the stasis field would hold... now they're all gone. I'll never taste Melissa's sweet lips again"....
Will he make it to the last escape pod in time? Hells to the No! ...
Well,... maybe. Stay tuned.

ive been going through a bit of an artistic crisis. lately ive felt like im trying to be something im not.. i dunno if its true or not, but thats how i feel right now. and i just want to be me.
however, my day was thoroughly brightened when i received a package in the mail. a very kind gentleman sent me a remote (yay! taking this picture was a piece of cake compared to normal) and a lens extender, addressed to "karrah kobus awesome photographer."
oh, and i want to explain this a little bit too, cause i feel like spine and butterfly pictures are everywhere, but this actually means something to me. and maybe i could have been a little bit more abstract in portraying this, but ive been sick for like a week and thats going to be my excuse, ha.
but when it comes to going back to being "me," the first thing i thought of is one of the experiences that makes me most unique, and that is the back surgery that i went through. i decided to make an image focusing on the spine... i altered it to appear abnormal and perhaps a bit ugly. i wanted the butterfly to symbolize an extension of the opposite. something soft and beautiful. i have a big scar on my back, but im pretty comfortable with it. so i just wanted to remember to not only accept myself, flaws and all, but embrace everything i have that is uniquely me.
i was also feeling inspired by my past as a dancer (nostalgia partially brought on by recently seeing black swan, which is super good). i miss the bright stage lights.
p.s. my goal is to get over half way by the day my 365 is supposed to be over.. yea, pretty pathetic haha. but im still only counting selfies.

One of my first SLR shots, taken in NYC a decade ago. The visit was a 21st Birthday celebration, alongside the gift of the camera itself. This is another scan of an original film image, EXIF data added, but no edits to the noise, scratches, etc. The trip was my compelling first connection to NYC; a city I got to return to a lot whilst studying more recently upstate. It was marked by the drifting mist and cloud in evidence in this view, which, neither undermined my engagement with the city itself nor, especially looking at this image in the years since 911, detracts from the impression it creates.
I would suggest viewing on black, despite the grain.
[From here on, I'm afraid things become a little reflective and over-wrought. It's not intended to offend, and no offence would be taken if you choose to skip it entirely.]
Having worked and studied overseas and in upstate NY, I've obviously made friends with a lot of people with far more intimate and emotional connections to 911 than I have myself. Not wanting to intrude upon or distract those far more powerful accounts, I still thought I might briefly commit some of my rememberings to this posting by way of commemoration and perspective.
On the day itself, we were living in Chipas, Mexico. In terms of timezones, this meant as we awoke the first tower was already on the news. Events unfolded as an American friend and I prepared for a morning volunteering (as English teachers) at the local orphanage. We had to leave for our teaching during the collapse. At the orphanage the kids would ask questions to get to know us, natural to them given their context, but strange to us, like; "Do you have a father/mother?" My friend's father was flying that morning, and he had been unable to contact him before we left, which gave a surreal, uneasy, yet somewhat epiphanic, edge to the morning.
Meanwhile, the close friend of another teacher in our group, was working in an upper level of the second tower. She had been unable to contact her. Understandably perhaps, to avoid panic and potential injury, after the first impact, she later found out that those working in the second had been told to remain at their desks. Her friend left her desk regardless, and, though she was still inside the tower when the second aircraft hit, she was now below the impact zone and thereby survived.
In terms of commemoration, I'd like to suggest, timidly, that one of the greatest tragedies of the day is not the tragedy of opposition - the battle between A vs B, whatever you label A or B, whichever side you take. Given subsequent conflict, right or wrong, that is how this event is often framed by the media. Rather I see it as a tragedy of those who have a side, and those who don't even know there was a battle. However the perpetrators are cast - be in political, religious, non-US extremist or US conspirator - clearly their paradigm was built on an underlying assumption of a conflict, which the victims were unaware of. If we disagree and together decide to fight one another, that is one thing. If we disagree, and I accept or am unaware of our differing thoughts, and yet you strike me down regardless, that is another, to my mind, greater tragedy.
I do hope these notes don't trivialise the event or offend anyone. It's just a record of a couple of stories and the musings that flowed from them. It's not meant as anything more. One thing my scanning of these old film prints has reminded me of is the power of a photograph to commemorate meaning over time. Flickr is chiefly a celebration of the present; of the frenetic energy of now and today. Perhaps one aspect of photography it overlooks is the longer term view. It's the difference between seeing the noise of everything, and stripping that noise away to leave the transcendent moment alone. Both interesting angles, but the latter inevitably absent from this medium, perhaps.
So that's probably quite enough introspection and philosophical declamation for the next few months. I hope you're all very well and have survived my ramble if you were generous enough to follow it. Have a superb week all.
After a couple of weeks with enormous amounts of snow it finally got a bit warmer the last couple of days and it started raining. Don't get me wrong, I love snow, but those amounts were just too much.

Another picture of a strange looking tree. This one was taken in Boston on a night of (almost) full moon. I like how the lights at the bottom form a rough parabola. There was so much light pollution that the sky did appear to have a hue of pink (no special color has been added to the sky)!

Last dawn of 2010 was cold and foggy. Still, I liked standing over Prague and watched the awake of a new day.

Chhota Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Avadhbuilt, in 1837-1840, so it is not that old. Don't doubt for a minute that I forgot all the names here other than Chhota Imambara by the time I was out of this gate, so I should thank Wikipedia. The main building also serves as a mausoleum to both Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah and his mother.

"The Power Of Love"
The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
Feels like fire
I'm so in love with you
Dreams are like angels
They keep bad at bay-bad at bay
Love is the light
Scaring darkness away-yeah
I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
[1]-The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I'll be around
With my undying, death-defying
Love for you
Envy will hurt itself
Let yourself be beautiful
Sparkling love, flowers
And pearls and pretty girls
Love is like an energy
Rushin' rushin' inside of me
This time we go sublime
Lovers entwine-divine divine
Love is danger, love is pleasure
Love is pure-the only treasure
I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
The power of love
A force from above
A sky-scraping dove
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door

There were just four of us down on the beach while nine others jockeyed for position up on the hillside. Of the shots I've seen so far, everyone came away with something different but equally as good. I've been to this spot once before and came away with a few very nice shots especially here and here. This time I thought I'd try a slightly different perspective and I'm fairly happy with the result.
Thanks to my good buddy Matt Granz for setting up this evening adventure and a very special thanks to his friend, Dave who was kind enough to chauffeur our very large group to and from the drop off point. No injuries and no arrests!
After accomplishing our primary target, I had the privilege and pleasure of shooting around San Francisco with Bob, Alan, and Terence. All local guys who know the city well and the cool places to go. Although I didn't get THE shot that has eluded me each time I've been here, this time because of a very large fence put up for the New Year's fireworks, I may have a shot or two I'm happy with. It's not a long drive for me and I can always go back for day trips.
If you have a chance, please check out the photostreams of all of the great photographers who made it on this night. As always, thanks for having a look and Happy New Year!

December 2010 has been officially the coldest December in U.K. for the last 120 years - ever since records began !!!
.....Temperatures plummeted below ( minus ) - 18 degrees C on 10 nights this month !!!!!
Hear Jessica Simpson sing ' Let It Snow ' :
“... Hoje, parei rodeio
na fazenda da vida!...
Apartei um bom lote de alegrias
pra o saladeiro duma despedida...
Recorri a invernada do presente,
- onde inda existe o refugo do passado -
tinha gado gordo,
gado magro,
e algum terneiro pesteado...
O campo da estância está apertado!
O pingo do meu pensamento
e trotei...
repontando a tropilha dos meus dias
rumo à mangueira donde todos vão ... “

Been going through my favorites over the last day or two. There are so many great photographs out there. Many faves are from those of you who regularly comment on my post which is much appreciated, as I really respect and admire your work. As a final post of 2010 I thought that I would add your photos to one of mine that I took recently in East Village, New York. It's a pastiche of the Led Zeppelin cover Physical Graffiti, but I added some of my flickr heros in the windows.
What would be cool is if those of you that I have featured would add a note to your image and hence feed back to your stream. I am sorry to those of you that I have not featured, I only had room for 16 images.
Wishing all a Happy & Prosperous New Year

The Bend is finally here. I really wanted to take my time with this image. And I hope I didn't disappoint anyone, but there were a lot of feelings and emotions in this image and I wanted to make sure I got it all out. I will get to my thoughts and feelings in a minute, but like Miles M. says, if you are not a fan of my commentary quit reading at this point.
The Trip
Jave I have been talking about another bootcamp trip since the last one, and Jave's been itching to come out to the southwest for a while now. So we figured hey, why don't we go hit up Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, and any other spots close to there. Either one of us had been to Horseshoe Bend or Antelope Canyon, so what the hell, lets go for it. Bootcamp Photography part 2 begins. Friday night Jave flies into Vegas. We sit and chat until about midnight, get a couple hours of sleep, and its off to AZ at 330 am. First stop, Zion National Park to meet up with the Zion killer John W. John has so many great images from Zion and Southern Utah that it makes me sick. Lucky bastard! We meet up with John and get skunked at Zion, but no biggie, that was a quick pit stop on the way to AZ. We head to AZ determined to catch some great light, although the skies were completely clear, and the forecast called for partly cloudy skies, our hopes for some great light were looking slim.
The Bend
We get to Page and meet up with Zia. Zia is the man you want to talk to for HUGE prints. We make our short hike to the Horseshoe Bend. Now, this is were all the emotions and everything else starts setting in. We are getting closer to the edge of the cliff, I'm guessing another 50 yards or so and Jave says "yo D, I'm scared of heights, what am I going to do?" I told him hold on, lets get to the edge first and see what's up. 10 to 15 feet from the edge is nothing, you can see the bottom of the canyon with no problems. 5 feet from the edge is like whoa.........scary. Less than 6 inches from the edge is SCARY beyond belief. I told Jave this is going to be tricky. He asks why..........I tell him to get the whole river in the frame, you MUST get inches away from the edge. I see the look in Jave's face like oh damn. It took me a good 15 minuets to convince Jave to come closer to the edge. I was scared myself, but we drove all this way to capture this amazing scene, it needed to be captured right and setting up close to the edge was the only way. The view is so amazing, its overwhelming to take it all in. The cliffs are super high and sketchy. I told him the easiest way to do this is, set all of our camera settings prior to setting up the tripod close to the edge.
set camera for auto bracketing - just in case, and for blending options
set ISO
get spirit level make sure horizon is straight as possible
set live view
keep my wireless remote in hand - this is a must at this location
set up graduated neutral density filter, I'm playing it safe with the hard edge 3 stop
take deep breaths before setting up close to the edge
now.........once I get everything set, I crawl closer to the edge, set up my tripod, set live view, and compose the image as best I can. I don't see all of the river in my live view..........damn it, I have to get even closer to the edge. I finally get all of the river in my live view screen, I'm ready to go. Wait........I have to place to grad accordingly. Ok, that's done. Now comes the wait. The clear skies slowly start to develop long streaking clouds coming from the east and heading west, we might be in luck. During this time I shot a small video clip to give everyone an idea of how we had to set up for our shot. I did some research, the drop from the rim to the canyon floor is 1000+ft. To kill time I lied down on the ground keeping my tripod within hands reach. There was no way I was going to be standing up looking over the edge waiting for the light to come. I just lay there just waiting patiently. The light is finally coming, we can tell that there is going to be some decent color this evening. Sure enough..............the light came. The sky was lighting up with all kinds of colors. It look like laser beams shooting across the sky. It was insane. Zia couldn't even believe the colors he was seeing. It was an unbelievable sight! The light came and it lasted 45 minuets after the sun passed the horizon. When we left, there was still color in the sky, and it was completely dark. I got the shots I wanted, once the light was gone and visibility was low, I was done. I wasn't sitting on the edge of that cliff any longer. It took a while for me to go to sleep that night. I was still fired up from the shoot, but I was in shock, and couldn't believe that I was that close to the edge to get that shot. My final thoughts on this image:
1. what are we doing?(us photographers) the things we do to get that shot.
2. I now understand why people do not get the whole river in the frame at this location.........they are scared to death, like I was, to set up their gear inches away from the rim of the canyon.
3. this IS by far........THE scariest place I've shot. Any images you see from here will not, prepare you for this place. It won't, you must witness the power of this place for yourself.
4. the most mentally challenging places I've shot.
5. I did it! ;-)
I wanted to give big thanks to Jean and Ellie for the support and info on this location.
I you haven't check out Jave's KILLER IMAGE from this spot, do so now!
Hope you guys enjoy this image, Happy Christmas to everyone, and thanks for the visit.
