This weekend's excursion led me to the beautiful North Cascade mountains. This drive is one of the most beautiful I've ever done. Tried to capture a very much photographed mountain (Liberty Bell) in a somewhat unique way. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for visiting! :)

This picture was shot on a tripod with three exposures @ F3.5 ISO 100 (-2..0..+2EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tonemapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. Unsharp Mask.

This shot was taken at the beginning of our road trip to central Oregon. It was raining along the way. Thank goodness the weather got better as we drove further into the cascades.

Cape Moreton Lighthouse was built from local sandstone in 1847 by the NSW Government. QLD was not declared a separate state until 2 years later….ok ok, I know what you NSW folks now say.

It was built because of the increasing traffic to the northern coast , but for a long time was the only light on the 3,236 miles of coastline.

The entrance into Moreton Bay is scattered with wrecks that attest the notoriousness of the bay.

Standing 23m high, this structure is the only example of a stone lighthouse in Queensland. Rare elements including external masonry and internal cast ironstairs cases still remain intact.

The original light source oil wick. It was converted in in 1930 to pressurised acetylene gas. This installation did not continue for long as in 1937 the apparatus was converted to 240v electricity. Today the Cape Moreton Lighthouse is fully solar powered and automated and plays an important part in the Australian east coast navigation network.

I also just noticed I didn't center the 245..lol...oh well. I've been so busy lately I haven't done any portraits in a while. Hopefully I can get one this week.

29 Shot HDR Panoramic.

I've borrowed a Canon 5D Mk II, and tonight I put it to the test, and now I want to buy one.

Matt and I headed north at around 3pm, we shot some nice ND 400 stuff at the S.S. Dicky and then stopped in at the Wild horse Lookout for an amazing sunset and view of the Glass House Mountains.

Three hours of post processing, no colours altered, HDR blending and stitching. This final shot is 1/5 of the original size.

Oh, and well, when Matt said getting up here was a decent walk, I did not believe him, haha, if it was not for the water tanks at the top, I might have died.

Enjoy.

About The Glass House Mountains

The Glass House Mountains were named by James Cook as he sailed north up the coast of what is now Queensland in 1770 as part of his epic voyage aboard his ship HM Bark Endeavour. They were so called as the shape of the mountains reminded him of the huge glass furnaces (glasshouses) back in his native Yorkshire.

Mt Beerwah is the highest peak within the park at 555 m (1,820 ft). Mount Coonowrin 377 metres is the second highest and Mt Tibrogargan at 364 m (1,190 ft) is the third highest. Walking tracks normally allow access to the summits of Mount Beerwah and Mount Tibrogargan (although Mount Beerwah summit track is closed as of April 2009), however climbing Mount Coonowrin is prohibited due to the danger of rock falls.

As We Grow Older

By Don Iannone

Summer flowers

Slipping away

Like the sun at dusk

The youthful spring, no more

In the old man's step

Dog-eared cone flowers

Droopy pink petals

Spiny orange tops

As best they can

Holding on for dear life

Our lives at times

Weak-kneed, fragile, out of kilter

Like some faint bad dream

Weighing upon us

Lingering well past morning coffee

Sometimes we wonder

Especially when afraid

If it's something we've done

That's driven our lives away

Or maybe just time to say goodbye

On Sunday evening (Aug 23, 2009) went with friend Anwar Khawari to take some photographs of bale, field, sunset etc.

A lot of shots I like seem to have some kind of texture added. If done right I think this is a very cool way to add extra interest to a shot. Until I got my dSLR this year, my Photoshop skills were limited to cropping and adjusting brightness and contrast. Slowly I have been picking up different skills with a touch of googling and all the wonderful tutorials out there :) For this shot I used two textures from the Totally Free Textures Group, an invaluable resource. Armed with my textures, I used this tutorial: How to Use Textures to Enhance Your Photographs. And voila!

Have to say I am my worst critic, but I was quite pleased with how this turned out. Hope you like it too.

The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is a Las Vegas Strip landmark funded in May 1959 and erected soon after by Western Neon. In a nod to Nevada's nickname as "the Silver State," across the top of the sign are white neon circles, designed to represent silver dollars. On the back or north side, the sign reads "Drive Carefully. Come Back Soon".

On October 4, 1999, the sign went dark for about a month when the company that had been paying the power bill was bought by another company who did not pay the bill. When the problem was discovered, payment of the past due amount, under $60, was made, and power was turned back on.

On December 8, 2008, a small parking lot was opened in the median of Las Vegas Boulevard to allow official public access to the sign for the first time. Prior to the parking lot's construction, visitors to the sign were forced to cross the northbound or southbound lanes of Las Vegas Blvd. without the benefit of any traffic signal or crosswalk. While no one is known to have been killed while trying to access the sign, increasing traffic at the south end of the Strip has made a crossing increasingly dangerous. The new parking lot provides 10 standard parking spaces, two handicapped spaces, and two large spaces for buses or limousines.

Dear friends, in this shot you may take a look at a small peninsula with a house just near the sea. The house is surrounded by a great garden and it has a direct access to a small beach (not visible in the photo). The house is in Paraggi, quite near Portofino. Guess who lives here? It's not me, of course!

Koh Mak is a large island located between Koh Chang and Koh Kood Most of its plains area is coconut plantations. The whole area of this island covers 16 sq.km with a round distance of 27 km. Long coconut beaches and crystal clear sea are the splendid attractions of the island. A natural, tropical island, Thailand's preserved treasure, is an ideal destination for visitors who enjoy a tranquil environment unspoiled by mass tourism. Amongst 10,000 palm trees, there’s a temple, three fishing community villages, rubber plantations, and still uninhabited beaches like this unspoiled Aow Pra beach above. I found several hermit crabs running here at the beach. The hermit crab is a type of crab that doesn't have a very hard shell. Not a true crab, it uses other animals' old shells for protection; they especially like old whelk shells. As the hermit crab grows in size, it must find a larger shell. Koh Mak is the perfect place to relax, explore, calm your mind and smoothe your senses. Koh Mak Island, where less is more.

Koh Mak is a little island perfect to explore and getting close to nature, bicycle through coconut plantations along the coastline full of thousand coconut palm trees. Even during raining season a great place to be. Temperature of 32 degrees Celcius. (90 ºF). Once a day a speedboat brings visitors to the island. About 10 tourist a day will visit the island during raining season. Many resort are also closed. You will get that Robinson Crusoe feeling when you explore uninhabited beaches of this pretty island. Photo of this Hermit crab taken on the unspoiled Aow Pra beach north of Koh Mak.

A view of the Fairy Glen from the other side of the Butte. Can you pick-out the cosmic circle of stones. Can you spot any naked ladies dancing in the centre of the spiral? If not then read on! The steep path leads right up into that cleft in the butte and onto the top of the geologic feature. From there you can be the King or Queen of the Fairy Castle!

The Faerie or Fairy Glen, is an area of otherworldly appearance, located close to Uig in the northwest of the Isle of Skye. It is a quiet place, except for bleating sheep, and is often described as fairy-like, yet relaxing. It is wild and far out, covered with something in the region of over 360 strangely shaped little conical hills. It is a pleasant natural spot with more than a hint of mystery. The hills are erosional features and geologists say that the distinctive landforms have been caused by a large landslip similar to the ones responsible for other parts of Skye’s unique topography e.g. the larger-scale Quiraing Area.

The area of the Fairy Glen is reported to be more than 15,000 square metres and contains numerous small, conical-shaped hillocks rising 2 - 10 metres in height. These hillocks are overgrown with thick, green turfy grass, are covered with bleating sheep and strange yellow mushrooms of unknown power and use. There is a brook running through the glen, with a little lochan and on the side of one of the slopes is a small cosmic spiral of stones, overgrown with grass. According to local legend, girls who dance naked on the spiral will have their dearest wishes fulfilled... or perhaps that should read: if girls dance naked around the spiral, local shepherds will have their dearest wishes fulfilled?

The beach from where this photo was taken is private property, but is owned by the company my dad now works for. We get to go there anytime we like. I like to think of this as My Own Private Beach, even though it's shared by multiple families.

At least I'm the only one who ever takes time to climb up the palm trees to get the cocunuts. Bottled water is overrated when coconut milk is on the menue.

BIG HELLO from Ottawa, Canada to all Flickr friends around the World.

We were on the Fire Lookout on top of Kendrick Peak at sundown. This is the view looking east at the San Francisco Peaks - Mount Humphreys and Mount Agassiz and the Snow Bowl Ski Resort north of Flagstaff. Some monsoon action today.

I backpacked the Pumpkin Trail - Bull Basin Trail loop up to the Kendrick Mountain Summit and camped northeast of the old Ranger Cabin. hikearizona.com/x.php?I=4&ZTN=195&UID=21152

From the USFS

www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/recreation/peaks/kentrick-mtn-w...

Kendrick Mountain Wilderness encompasses Kendrick Peak, one of the many peaks of the vast San Francisco mountain volcanic field located on the Coconino Plateau in north-central Arizona. Reaching an elevation of 10,418, the summit affords excellent views of the surrounding plateau, including the San Francisco Peaks to the east, the distant red rock of the Oak Creek/Sycamore Canyon country and Sitgreaves and Bill Williams Mountains to the south, Red Butte and distant views of the north rim of the Grand Canyon to the north. A fire lookout was first established on the summit in the early 1900's, and continues to be staffed to this day. In 2000 a majority of the wilderness was involved in a large wildfire. Dramatic vegetation patterns were created by burn intensities ranging from light to very severe, most evident on the west, north, and east slopes. On-going natural recovery processes may be observed, with early seral species becoming established in the severely burned areas. Characteristic montane coniferous forests, aspen stands, and high mountain meadow grasslands will re-establish with time. Unstable volcanic soils have undergone recurring severe erosion on the steeper slopes within burned areas, causing damage to the trails and access roads. Soils in the burn area will take many more years to re-stabilize.

Three maintained trails totaling 14 miles offer access to the wilderness. The Kendrick Mountain Trail, Pumpkin Trail, and Bull Basin Trail all lead hikers to the top of Kendrick Mountain and to the fire lookout tower. When the lookout tower is open during summer months, the lookout operator usually welcomes visitors to visit the top of the tower to enjoy the views.

There are no reliable water sources on the mountain, so pack in plenty. All of the trails are considered to be challenging due to the lack of water, impressive elevation gains, and the effects of the wildfire, including numerous fallen/falling snags and recurring trail erosion damage which can make route-finding difficult.

As I continue to crawl my way back onto Flickr after my long break I share with you another view of the Prague Skyline looking toward the East Bank of one of our favourite cities in all of Europe.

This is as wide a view as I could get as I enjoyed the sunset from Strelecký Ostrov on the Vltava River looking towards the Old Town in Prague, Czech Republic. The first mention of this island was in the 12th century back when it was given the elegant name of Lawn.

If you haven't already done so, you can take a look at a closer view right here. This was one of my most enjoyable sunsets on our travels. It doesn't get much prettier than this for me. I will showing you one more view next.

I hope everyone has a terrific weekend ahead the summer is winding down although it's still like 40 degrees here in Chatham and hot. Thank heavens for pools and basements.++

The assignment this week in Twitter Photochallenge is Self Portrait.

About:

The challenge this week is "Self Portrait". There are already many good contributions in the Twitter Photochallenge pool, so I had to do a little extra manipulation to make something new :))

This was shot with at very wide angle with two flashes. The inspiration for this creation comes from Josh Sommers, who creates the most amazing manipulations.

The big blue eye is my own, just slightly altered :)) I pulled the shot through all kinds of processing in Lightrrom and Photoshop, I do not look like this in real life :))

I used the warp tool to distort my face out of proportion. I took a separate photo of my eye wide open. I enlarged the eye using the OnOne fractal plugin for Photoshop, enhancing the colors and sharpened the structures. I cloned the pupil away and placed it underneath the warped face layer in Photoshop. Carefully I masked the original eye away and worked quite a long time one the edges. Very funny work :))

Check out the eye close up :))

Thanks

In and out of Explore, thanks to all for comments and faves :))
