Six miles high! You can see the snowdrift being carried off the top of Annapurna South and the main peak, Annapurna I, by the hurricane force winds of the jet stream. Annapurna I looks like its a part of the "South" peak but they are separated by a deep valley. Annapurna I is about 800 meters higher and set further back, hence appears level and connected with Annapurna South.

Getting a full moonrise over Yosemite Valley had been on my bucket list but had eluded me for some time. My original plan for the day was to shoot the full moon rising over the Painted Ladies with the San Francisco skyline during blue hour. However, the forecasted clearing storm in Yosemite was too promising to pass up.
While shooting sunset at Tunnel View, I was so engulfed watching the epic conditions unfold I nearly forgot about the moonrise. Once the sunset show was over, all the photographers began chattering about the impending full moon rise.
Somehow, no one seemed to know where or when exactly the moonrise was to occur. Figuring that we had already driven 4 hours to Yosemite, Alan, Aaron, and I decided to wait it out. Twilight began kicking in and all of a sudden, the moon appeared on the horizon north of Cloud’s Rest. At that moment, the entire crowd of photographers flocked southward at the Tunnel View overlook.
Initially I focused on shooting the moon using my tele lens in hopes of getting a giant moon framed with Half Dome. However, the moon’s position had too much spread from Half Dome and the wider angle shot seemed more optimal. For my last shot, I threw on my 24-70 lens for a midrange shot with hopes of a light star from the moon. I really did not expect much out of the shot but was pleasantly surprised with the result. It was an evening worthy to remember: an epic sunset followed by a full moon rise over Yosemite Valley.

Part of the Orion Molecular Cloud, an immense star forming region very close to earth, The Flame and Horsehead Nebulas offer a glimpse into the process from which stars and their planets are created. The colorfully lit areas are being irradiated by the young stars which have formed in the recent past and as a result, the ionized hydrogen in the clouds glows. The dark regions, on the other hand, are areas of dusty material in the interstellar medium dense enough to obscure the glow from behind. The Horsehead is such an object and from our vantage point on Earth, it bears a striking resemblance to the head of a horse.
The bright blue star just above The Flame Nebula is the easternmost star in Orion's belt, Alnitak, also known as Zeta Orionis. It is a "blue super-giant" and the brightest such star in the night sky.
Although it appears as a single object it is actually a triple-star (three stars in orbit around each other).
Zeta Orionis is responsible for the glow of the Flame Nebula; it glows so intensely in the ultra-violet range that even at a distance of a hundred light-years, the hydrogen in the cloud becomes ionized like neon in a sign. This radiation is also speeding the development of new stars as the pressure from the radiation further compresses the material. When the density of the material becomes great enough, gravity takes over and collapses the gas into a single object where temperature and pressure increase so dramatically that hydrogen atoms are fused into helium and a new star is born.
From my sons I've got a GPS tagger as Christmas present. Since 2 years I wanted to buy one but I never knew which one I should take. Therefore I'm really happy about this gift!
These days I have tested the tagger and have tried it first in my neighborhood in the late afternoon. The tagger works very well and is easy to handle.
I've taken the shot above during this test walk ... nothing spectacular but I like it somehow and on the left you can see my beloved walnut tree.

Extensão: 13,29 km (8,26 mi);
Atualmente é considerada a maior ponte, em concreto protendido, do hemisfério sul e atualmente é a sexta maior ponte do mundo.

The Parliament House, Riksdagshuset, is the seat of The Parliament of Sweden and located on Helgeandsholmen in central Stockholm.
The building was designed by Architect Aron Johansson and built between 1897 and 1905. When it was opened it replaced the old Parliament House on Riddarholmen. The building was originally constructed to house both The Parliament and The Swedish National Bank.
In 1971 it was decided that the bank part of the building was to be rebuilt into a new assembly hall for The Parliament. An architectural competition was won by the architectural firm Ahlgren-Olsson-Silow Arkitekter AB. The largest outwardly visible change was the copper-clad body of the old National Bank with the new chamber. The rebuilt building was inaugurated in October 1983.

Chamonix is dominated by the white majestic dome of Mont Blanc, at 4,810m the highest mountain in western Europe.
Every year the summit of Mont Blanc becomes the ultimate objective for mountaineers the world over, all striving to stand on top of the roof of Europe and look down on all of the major summits of the Alps.
To climb Mont Blanc from Chamonix, people normally chose one of the two most common routes. Slightly more technical, the route from the Aiguille du Midi, over Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit is generally quieter, and highly dependent on conditions.
The slightly easier and more reliable option is via the Tramway du Mont Blanc to the Nid d'Aigle, then up the Aiguille du Gouter and the Bosse ridge.
While not technically challenging, ascending Mont Blanc requires a high level of physical fitness and experience using crampons and an ice axe.

This bird was feeding in the grass near Stop 9 on Black Point Wildlife Drive this winter. I watched from a boardwalk as it kept making its way closer to me, completely oblivious to my presence. Having been to this location several times with poor results, I was determined to come away with the perfect panoramic. The ocean was pounding the headland and was kicking up a lot a sea spray making it very difficult to get a set of frames before having to clean my filters but was also creating an amazing atmosphere. I decided to shield myself from the spray and spent the next 20 minutes switching from west to east and found that the combination of sea spray and sunlight looking towards the Pinnacles was creating a stunning three dimensional effect. Getting down low and shifting my Schneider up I captured the perfect set of frames for this panoramic. After a quick stitch on my Mac Air and a little work in Photoshop I was happy with the final result.

Levanto is the Hidden Gem on the Italian Riviera and the doorway to the Cinque Terre. A town of pre-roman origins, lies at the northern end of the enticing little villages. Levanto literally means the land situated east of Genova. It has a long sandy beach, an interesting old center, many delightful painted villas, a bustling Wednesday market, and good restaurants and shops. Levanto is a real town with a city park where families get together and the children have fun. You can actually even find a laundromat here as well as normal shops not always found in larger touristy locations. It's most picturesque, fun and quaint at the same time, very accessible, and terrific for swimming. Being on the water makes the cliffs more dramatic, the colors more intense, and the water a deeper shade of blue. Enjoying a partcularly mild climate, from here it's easy to visit the fascinating ports of the Cinque Terre, either by train, by sea or hiking.
Beautiful cycle path built on the route of the old coastal railway from Levanto to Bonassola. Along the stretch these young couple can also access to beaches and hidden coves otherwise unreachable except by sea. Among the most loveliest paths there is in Italy. Recommended to all.
While walking on the glacier, In that ice cleft, I could cleary see a figure.

Pareidolia (pron.: /pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-doh-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.

This is the « Porte d’en haut », one of the two entrance of Perouges, a medieval walled town northeast of Lyon, France.
Perouges is one of the most beautiful villages of France. The narrow and meandering lanes are edged with small houses, generally without foundations, built with stones and pebbles.
Pérouges was inhabited by craftsmen, mainly farmers and linen weavers. It was probably founded by a Gallic colony returning from Perugia in Italy.
The high wall, reinforced at the corners with free stones, is made of boulders. It has a broken arch inside and is an integral part of the church.
In the XVth century, the inhabitants of Pérouges have turned their church into a real fortress with walls dotted with loopholes and the church tower allows access to the covered way.
Today, Pérouges is a popular tourist attraction.
I took so many beautiful shots of this beautiful place it would have been extremely hard to choose one to upload, if it weren't for the human element in this one, which I think adds a whole new dimension to the scene.
Actually, when the rural worker passed me by I asked him if I could take a picture of him...he said "no"!! Well, I waited for him to be in a safe distance from me and took the pic anyway...and then ran to my car! LOL
In the end, I'm glad I did it, I think it was worth it!

If I held in my hand
Every grain of sand
Since time first began to be
Still, I could never count
Measure the amount
Of all the things you are to me
If I could paint the sky
Hang it out to dry
I would want the sky to be
Oh, such a grand design
An everlasting sign
Of all the things you are to me
You are the sun
That comes on summer winds
You are the falling year
That autumn brings
You are the wonder and the mystery
In everything I see
The things you are to me
Sometimes I wake at night
And suddenly take fright
You might be just fantasy
But then you reach for me
And once again I see
All the things you are to me
You are the sun
That comes on summer winds
You are the falling year
That autumn brings
You are the wonder and the mystery
In everything I see
The things you are to me
All the things you are… to me

This was a beautiful animal to see "in person", even though I'm not sure what animal this is.He was, lucky enough, not in a cage, but in a large and beautiful field, which helped in the composition.
Lightbox ("L") recommended!
Until my last two uploads it's been nearly a year (4th Nov 2011) since I uploaded a shot with a daytime sky in it. Only 2 of the 28 shots I posted in that time were even taken in the daytime. Even then, you have to go back to August 2011 to find any real number of daytime shots. So I'm trying, briefly, to redress the balance.
This is my first attempt at a panorama shot. It's composed of seven handheld exposures; shot portrait on manual. The output was 600Mb! You won't need too keen an eye to spot the beginners mistakes; like the artifacts from the attempts to process out the vignetting. Anyway, I'd shot the images to make a panorama, and felt it wouldn't count as following through if I didn't post them. Criticism would be, as ever, hugely appreciated.
I used content aware fill on CS5 to fill corners. When it built the other half of the far left tree, I was pretty stunned. It's more magic than technology.
This is a shot from Zumwalt Meadow; a spot at the end of California's Kings Canyon National Park which offers a little circular walk beneath these giant crags. I'd recommend it hugely.
I'm part way through catching up from a couple of week's away, so sorry for the slow tour. Hope everyone's having a fantastic weekend!
