Built and opened in 1980, closed/re-located in late 2014

This is the only interior shot I managed to get, since the other windows were filthy and also had condensation on the outside (plus a sketchy looking guy walked through the parking lot and I felt the need to leave!). The closest comparison picture I have for this view is this one. I wonder what happened to the rest of the stripe border?

A Texaco station was originally built on this site, closing as one around 2002. It later became a boat dealer, which closed in or before 2011. In 2013, it became the Car Center of Charlotte County, which later closed in or before 2015. In 2016, the former Texaco station was demolished and this new 7-Eleven gas station was built on the site; it opened in December 2016.

This was the only interior shot I was able to get since the windows are papered up pretty tight. The counter was to the left and the Slurpee/Big Gulp machines were in the pocket of space next to the coolers. Most 80s locations were set-up this way.

Once again, I was too late to get better photos of this place while it was still open. I drove by here on the evening of September 21st and noticed that the store was closed with all the lights off inside. Peculiar, but I figured they were just doing some work inside or something and had to shut down temporarily. My interest was aroused though, so I drove by again on the 25th and there were several vehicles in the parking lot, which led me to believe they had re-opened: turns out it was a crew helping shut down the store, not customers. The next time I drove by was the 28th, and the store appeared as it does in this photo. Darn!

Thing is, I always felt that this place was too difficult to photograph when it was in business: it's situated at a busy intersection, making it hard to make a quick getaway out of the parking lot, plus it was always busy when I stopped by. I always had the sensation that an employee or customer wouldn't be cool with my presence on the property if I started snapping, away so to save myself the trouble I straight up avoided the store. Hell, even since they've been closed its been difficult to get photos here, because Newport News police officers like to park here in an attempt to catch speedy drivers. Plus the sun backlights the store in the afternoon. Luckily everything fell into place today!

AFAIK I only ever gave this particular location business once, back in August 2015 to get a Big Gulp refill. Click on this link for a review with a little look inside when they were open. Interestingly, the guy who made that review made it three weeks before they closed. I wonder if they knew then that the location would be closing so they stopped caring.

All that remains of the road sign is the foundation. Being a mid-1980s location, the store had a sign like this one.

This location was built and opened in 1975. It relocated into a newly-built store on this property in 2013. Ironically, this new store is right next door to another former 7-Eleven, currently Big Al's Mufflers. I don't personally have photos of either of those places so for now check them out on Google Street View.

I've noticed recently that it's becoming rarer and rarer in this area to find 7-Elevens still operating out of these older a-frame stores. Usually it's a Walmart-like situation where they re-build a bigger store a few blocks away from the old one, though there are a few that remain on the original property. I wanna say its sad to see these older stores close up, but to be honest the newer stores are an improvement in every way so its no loss to me.

A former 7-Eleven store in Minneapolis was taken over by SuperAmerica but they only had enough logo decals to cover one of the four sides of the old 7-Eleven trash bin. Also note the Gatorade bottle on top, and the pay phone behind it.

Now it's Speedway decals covering old SA logos.
