40th Anniversary Concert Tour at the Ramshead, in Annapolis, Maryland
Now, at this stage the guitar is really starting to open up. You test this as you go, from the top with bracing, to when the bracing is down and all throug the build. The trick is to remove enough material so that the soundboard resonates and gives a nice tone when you tap it with flesh of forefinger sharply. The tone should be almost bell like - it should sustain. This was quite tight and not giving a good "bong" until today. amazing. Stewart's monster Jumbo was giving great tone almost straight away - so much wood there to resonate - mine is much tighter due to its size.
So cute. Here's the body more or less done. Binding is planed, scraped and whole body sanded back, first with 150, then 280, then 320 grit paper. Important to keep flat whether plane or sanding block or orbital sander - keep base of sander flat toward centre of body. follow grain.
Illustrated man. spiritual ink.
Sound check on the 12 string.

My new Jay Turser 335 copy. I've wanted a 335 since I saw Back to the Future while I was at college. The originals where/are expensive and the copies back then usually had bolt-on necks and I wanted a set-neck like the original. The Chinese are currently taking up where the Japanese left off making copies back in the 80's. For the little money I paid this is a remarkable guitar that makes all the right sounds.
The camera was stopped down to get as much depth of field as I wanted...but this meant a 10s long exposure and a tripod were needed to get enough light in (I just don't hold with all that flash stuff!). The funny angle meant carefully propping the guitar up just right. A black tee-shirt was used to ensure a dark background at the far end.
IrFanView was used for slight cropping and to add the fancy border (because it looked pretty dull without it).
,, and that harp.
dobroist Lloyd Thayer has a new recording out called Blues for Boston
a self release . It's ALL Blues , he is in the process of recording & releasing several other projects by the end of summer.
This time Lloyd brought up three guitars, a banjo and quite a few harmonicas including this rare replica of a once very popular harmonica w/ horns!.

A few shots of Miguel playing his vintage Gibson Les Paul. This happened by accident while making adjustments in Nikon Capture NX. I liked the way it look so kept it.

der_rings: That's right. Tell me an album where no od808 is in front of a mesa or 5150 is. He uses a jack to get rid of the speaker! @whore.to.a.chainsaw
Catgut is what they used to make guitar strings of. Strangely enough, it was actually sheeps intestines but they called it catgut anyway. No wonder my cats are afraid of our guitars!
This is my old beater. It was second hand when I obtained it and it had suffered extreme damage, like the neck had been broken off. I have owned it for at least 15 years and I have to say, that despite it's rather sad and tatty appearance it plays and sounds really well.
Messing around before classes start tomorrow, just back from thanksgiving break
Strobist Lighting Info: Canon 400D, Tamron 28-80mm, Sigma EF-500 DG ST flash fired at low power (Manual L) at about 3.5 seconds, jumped out of the frame for the last 1.5 seconds of the exposure. Camera on table tripod fired on timer.
