New energy efficient LED lighting illuminates the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge: red, white, and blue for the American arched spans and red and white for the Canadian arched span. View from the lock gates of the Sault Canal (Parks Canada) National Historic Site.
The International Bridge- -a 4.5 kilometer / 2.8 mile long metal Cantilever (suspended deck) Warren Through Truss two lane bridge with a two span arch over the American Soo Locks and a single span arch over the Canadian Sault Canal. It was designed by the New York architectural firm of Steinman, Boynton, Gronquist and London; the bridge opened October 1962. The bridge spans the St. Marys River and connects Sault Ste. Marie Michigan to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.
The Sault Canal opened in 1895- - it was the world’s first electrically operated lock, and the world’s longest lock- -274 metres / 899 feet long and 18 metres / 59 feet wide. Closed in 1987 due to a lock wall collapse, the canal was reconstructed and reopened for recreational boating use in 1998. The Sault Canal is operated as a National Historic Site by Parks Canada.
I exposed it for 60 seconds. At Kawasaki.

Although there wasn't too much colour in the twilight sky this evening, it was quite dramatic.
Looking due East, 30 minutes after sunset.

Ron, Mollie and I went to Elowah Falls with Zeb a couple of weeks ago. We had beautiful weather that day.
Scott Cook, in his book "Curious Gorge", says that Elowah Falls may be the most overlooked major waterfall in the Gorge. It falls for 290 feet to make an impressive site. It's an easy 3/4 mile into the falls from the parking lot. It's well worth it.
It’s a stack of 60shots of 60seconds exposure each.
In total 60 Minutes/ 1 Hour

What remains of the Hayden Flour Mill in Tempe. The city maintains some information on it's history available at their website. The main page which links to all others. Historical preservation information. Although archaeological work has stopped, the archive of updates is maintained here.
Even though the mill is no longer the tallest building in the immediate area it is still draws the most attention. Seems hanging on to our heritage might be worth the effort after all.

Soon after sunrise at Coryton Cove, Dawlish in Devon. Very quiet seas and the lingering sunrise tones still in the misty sky.
Padley Gorge, Derbyshire.
I was rushing a bit with this, trying to get one more picture in the fading light of the day. Even though there was hardly any breeze, the long shutter speed required to correct for reciprocity failure still unfortunately led to some slightly motion-blurred foliage in the mid-ground. Oh well, there's always next time...

i'm the girl who is lost in space, the girl who is disappearing always, forever fading away and receding farther and farther into the background. just like the cheshire cat, someday i will suddenly leave, but the artificial warmth of my smile, that phony, clownish curve, the kind you see on miserably sad people and villains in disney movies, will remain behind as an ironic remnant. i am the girl you see in the photograph from some party someplace or some picnic in the park, the one who is in fact soon to be gone. when you look at the picture again, I want to assure you, i will no longer be there. i will be erased from history, like a traitor in the soviet union. because with every day that goes by, i feel myself becoming more and more invisible...

What an exciting evening we had! I and 2 friends went out for a last shooting hurrah! with a friend who is moving out of state.
I think I've mentioned before that this particular Mission is surrounded by an Army base. Well, not too long after darkness set in we were shooting our star trail sequence when we heard over the loud speaker coming from the base an announcement telling all personnel to get to their places. Then a few minutes later we heard gun fire, and tanks, and big vehicles moving around. Then there was another announcement which was followed by a fire truck blazing down the road that runs by the Mission, then more gun fire, and tanks moving. We think the artillery started a grass fire. You can imagine our wonder right!
Then a bit later we heard over the loud speaker bugles playing reveille but not really reveille because it also had a "charge" vibe to it. As this was playing Coyotes started to howl and sing in the trees behind us!! Oh my gosh. We weren't worrying about the rattlesnakes after hearing them!
Then right after the music stopped we heard a loud cheer from the soldiers.
Then a few more rounds of gun fire, and tanks moving about then all was quite again out here in the middle of Central California at Mission San Antonio de Paqua.
What an exciting evening and great farewell shoot with my friends. Jason I miss you already!

While I was waiting for sunset and watched the clouds racing across the sky I thought why not try a long exposure. This is were the fun lies as you never know what you'll get until you are done with the exposure. :-)

I could enjoy astroimaging in dark site near Nikko, Tochigi in the week end. It was clear and calm.
I witnessed a bright meteor. I was viewing northern sky, when a bright light spot moved slowly toward east and disappeared in seconds. It was just before the end of the exposure.

Th abandoned St. Joseph Island ferry docks at Bamfort Island closed with the opening of the Brent Gilbertson bridge in 1972. The bridge replaced the ferry service operated by the Province of Ontario from 1953 to 1972. The bridge crosses the St. Joseph Channel / Lake Huron's North Channel and connects St. Joseph Island via Highway 548 to Northern Ontario.
Not sure if these will be of any interest, but here goes.
A couple of shots from yesterday mornings workshop taken to demonstrate the difference the length of exposure makes. Two different neutral density filters used, a 3 stop one for one shot, and a 10 stop for the other. Both also had a 3 stop graduated over the sky to balance the shot. No post processing, just converted from raw and resized.
This one taken at f11, ISO 200 for 60 seconds, using the 10 stop neutral density filter.
The other shot can be seen below.
Sorry, one last shot of Combestone Tor, well half of it anyway :)
Was set up for a long shot in the dark, when a herd of cows decided to come and stand in the way, so had to re-position on just one of the rock formations.
Was lucky really, as I think it makes a better composition, so thanks to the cows :)
