Taken for the Macro Mondays group theme "White on White". I found this quite a challenge - very difficult to keep the whites white!

A strange woodland plant that is all flower and no leaves.

Common toothwort (Lathraea squamaria) is a parasitic plant living on the roots of a range of woody plants, on which it is dependent for its nutrition. It is most commonly found in shady areas feeding on decaying hazel. Toothwort is unusual in that it is completely lacking in chlorophyll.

I was asked a wee while ago to put this one up one here. I'd previously added it as a comments picture. Its not the full version of the one from a few days ago but a 16:9 crop of the one from November. I kept that as a panoramic crop in colour as the sky at the top of the frame was distracting. However, I really liked the shape of the trees when they were allowed more room and in particular I liked the way the light lit up the various wee bit of foliage. However, being a bit of a B&W nut I felt that this particular crop worked far better in mono. It might be that others won't like it as they will far prefer the colour version. As regards the mono processing I'm fairly sure that it started life using a preset supplied by Scott Masterton - rather an accomplished photographer and one whose photostream I would advise you to have a wee look at.

PS - full size this image is 11060x6221 and is a six frame stitch taken with the Nikon 60mm macro lens so the detail is rather immense full size (if you like that sort of thing).

The whistle has been opened to allow the steam to escape. The image is 2" tall by not quite 3" wide. I'll be out of the country starting tomorrow so will be unable to respond to comments or comment on other images. Have a great week everyone and Happy Macro Monday!!

Even the prettiest flower will die one day. It’s nature’s way of teaching us that nothing lasts forever.

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

This is one of the rejects for 64 color's Blue Violet. I just thought it was too purple :) But I have to post this, because when I was taking the shot I was thinking of my dear friend Jainbow :) This is for you Jane! ♥

This Wax plant has refused to flower for the twenty years or so that I have had it. I have tried every means possible and hope every year that something works! Sigh! I am considering singing to it to shock it into action.

After a few unsuccessful hours butterfly hunting on Denbies hillside(the weatherman had promised sunny intervals..ha!) with only a few bugs to fire at,on the way back up to the top I spotted this bright fella at the bottom of a grass clump. Decided at least get something. He didn't want me sticking my lens near him ,so he fluttered up to the top of this grass stem stopped for a few seconds and took off down the hillside.I managed three shots when he stopped at the tip. What an amazing coloured moth, hope you think so too.Made the visit worthwhile....I reckon.

P.S you try saying the Latin name after 3 coffees...
