Tricky customer, very mobile, never resting or nectaring for long.Largest of our fritillaries.
Been after getting a close view of this species for three years now,had become one of my nemesis butterflies.Getting close with a macro lens, usually deep in brambles I found almost impossible.
Even if I got close enough, they never settled for long and were away even before I could raise my camera. This is a female,I much prefer the underwing colours and patterning of this butterfly, soft subtle greens, ochres, raw sienna and a touch of burnt umber. All softly blended amongst the very prominent veins.I much prefer the females colouring to the male.Absolutely stunning.
So..I was really pleased when I had positioned myself deep in some Brambles in the vain hope I might be lucky and a Silver- wash would land on a blossom, when one landed right next to me and I got a shot...at last..!
Shot taken on the hottest day of the year, the sun was high, making a contrasty scene, but, sometimes you have to accept what nature has for you. I also saw four Purple Emperors, and, many White Admirals...also a nemesis of mine....will get close enough one day.
Please view large..amazing scale patterns and texture on this stunning butterfly. Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to look at ,fave, and comment.
Sometimes sadness is appropriate. Not something to run from, not something to numb...just something to feel.

I quite enjoyed trying for this weeks image. This is a small 1.75" aluminum spinning top. Using two speed lites, one on either side of the spinning top I was able to capture it upright and if you look closely you can seem the movement. The top is spinning on the surface of a glass and aluminum plate.
A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.

I love mushrooms in a any form, but these had sadly gone off and gotten slimy. Before tossing them I noticed the beauty in the details, shapes and textures, so.... a few shots for Macro Monday were called for.

Be different. Be original. Nobody will remember a specific flower in a garden filled with thousands of the same yellow flower, BUT they will remember the one that managed to change its color to purple. Suzy Kassem
