Weather has cooled off. Only 25°C or 77°F. Able to be outside again. Smoke is not so bad either after all those wildfires here in California.

Because of the Corona Virus and the increase of cases here, I am staying home to avoid any contact. It limits me the amount of species I find.

This was my second attempt to capture the Gatklettur Sea Arch in the trip. I was still not that lucky with the light. However while coming back we saw an amazing sunrise from the car. But we were too late to reach any other locations. The first time we attempted to photograph this location; it was all very windy and cloudy. It was similar this day; but a bit better.

In general the weather in Iceland stays pretty poor. It stays covered with cloud, rains all the time, cold. It is actually pretty depressing. Visiting Iceland for few days with a package trip is the worse thing that you could actually do. Yes; you may be extremely lucky to have some good weather on the locations you are travelling. But in a country where average minimum rain fall is 10 days a month; what is the possibility that you will have a good weather? This is why I found many unhappy tourists in Iceland. If you really want to enjoy the best of Iceland; you need to drive and sleep in a camper and follow the weather. This way; you can explore and enjoy the full glory of Iceland at its best.

Overall the drive to Arnarstapi was amazing. Very Icelandic. You will drive many miles with nothing but raw nature and the Atlantic in far through a large volcanic plateau keeping the beautiful Snæfellsjökull on the left. Iceland is beautiful and every corner of it is amazing. Even though Gatklettur Sea Arch is the most common location of Arnarstapi; the whole cost line is full of amazing natural wonder. You can spend a week only exploring this region and can come up with amazing images. I feel lucky to be able to travel to this wonderland at least once in my lifetime.

2 images of a tulip stamens/anther first 15 frames , second 19 frames focus stacked

canon 5dsr mpe 65 f7.1 hand held, holding flower stem in left hand finger tips, resting lens barrel on palm of my hand while sliding lens across my hand while taking all the frames handheld. (Therefore if my hand moves the subject, the lens also moves at same time and doesn't miss align the frames while shooting) using a focus spot in viewfinder aligned on the centre anther and making sure it stays in exactly the same spot while taking all the frames required makes sure very little movement between the individual frames.

a very efficient diffuser allows fast flash re cycle time allowing very fast shooting.

which is best, partial stack with petals in background oof or with a few extra frames focused on the petals behind ?

My first couple of days in Maldives were pretty disappointing from photography point of view. Even though it was a great place and we spend a lots of time in the lovely water and ate a lot; somehow the photographer inside was pretty sad. As a normal habit; I was present for every sunrise and sunset just to come back empty handed. However; I noticed these Grey Herons catching fishes early morning and late afternoon. Amazing skill. Off course that gave the idea to capture them. As you can imagine; me being a nature and architecture photographer with almost no experience with wild life; it was just super hard. Thanks to some of those curious studies of the wildlife photography blogs; I somehow managed to capture what I was looking for. I was so much into it that I just lost count of time. Only after finishing with the birds. Well; I think they ate enough and flown away to a shady place to relax. Otherwise (probably) I would have still continued. Any way; I actually spend constant 4 hours photographing them. This was the best I could come up with. I still intend to capture images of flying birds some day. But for now; I am happy to capture a decent static one.

Now regarding the shot. It was a overcast day. So the poor dynamic range of Canon was not that much of an issue. Else it would have been tough to expose those white neck properly. The 5DSR is just slow and I don't have a super fast memory card either. I could just get 5 images in one burst. So I had to choose the timing properly. The light was goo enough to give me 1/800 shutter speed in F5.6 with ISO 100. That helped keeping enough DOF to make the bird sharp and subject isolation was also all right. Any way the 70 200 is super sharp from around F4 on my 5DSR. My advantage was that super sharp lens and sensor, super accurate and fast auto focus and plenty of pixels. That is why I could crop to a relative image without loosing any details. At the same time the file is big enough to print a decent A1. I am happy with that. Not a bad start.
