Melanie Wild from San Ramon, California hangs one of thousands of "Welcome Home" cards on the walls of her brother's unit at Company B, 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team Friday, April 25. The idea for the cards began when family member Jolene Hendricks had an idea to help welcome the troops home when she e-mailed her friends and families asking for a few cards to let the troops know someone appreciates all they have done and soon found herself with more than thousands of greeting cards donated schools, friends and families as well as Give2theTroops.org and Xerox Company.

A strategic bridge across the river Merderet. The Germans, entrenched in the manor of La Fière, kept in check the Americans who lacked heavy weapons. Around 11 am, General Ridgway assigned the task to colonel Lindquist, Commander of the 508th Regiment of the 82nd Airborne, to carry out a massive assault; finally the manor was taken and the paras established the defence of the bridge. At 5:30 pm the Germans striked back and counter-attacked with tanks and infantry. The Americans destroyed several Renault tanks and the enemy broke off. In the morning of 7 June, the Germans renewed the assault after an artillery preparation. The paras of the 1st Battalion of the 505th Regiment, under Captain Dolan, underwent heavy losses; the Americans defended to ground their positions and broke the last German attack at La Fière.

The week-long, non-combative evacuation operation consisted of the lift and drop off of one platoon per night for three consecutive nights. The purpose of the exercise is to execute the simulation of an embassy evacuation. Support for the operation was provided by pilots and crew chiefs with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
