This is the very last version of the old P601 saloon: the 1.1 with a VW Polo engine.
The 1.1 was based on the basic 1964 P601 Limousine.
In 1987 negotiations started between the DDR government and Volkswagen for using their know-how about small and cheap 4-stroke engines.
The first 4-stroke Trabant prototypes were made in 1988. Only two years later full production could start, but in fact much to late. There was no demand for the old-fashioned Trabant anymore, neither on the domestic market nor abroad.
With a mass of unsold vehicles AWZ was forced to quit all activities and the production plant in Zwickau was sold to VW.

The Tiger 90 was a development of the Twenty-one/3TA model, being a much sportier design in an attempt to capture more of the youth market. It was introduced with the bikini fairing and slim mudguard (as opposed o the bathtub and roman helmet of the 3TA), and had high-compression pistons to increase the power to that of the 5TA. The bikini fairing was dropped in 1964 and the bike was styled more like the 650cc Bonneville. Then in 1966 the electrics were changed to 12V with Zener diode regulation.
The machine continued to be developed until its demise in 1968 when the 250cc machines which were cheaper to tax and insure started to rival the 350s performance.

BMW achieved the license from Iso Autoveicoli SpA for manufacturing the Iso Isetta. The original Italian Isetta was designed by Ermenegildo Preti in cooperation with engineer Pierluigi Raggi in 1952 and presented at the 1953 Turin Motor show.
In April 1955 BMW started to built the BMW Isetta 250 which was a copy of the Italian version. Only small details like the headlamps were different.
In October 1956 a slightly bigger modified version was presented: the BMW Isetta 300.
The Isetta Export was presented in 1957. It had a smaller rear window and sliding windows at each side.
Since Spring 1959 a 3-wheeler version of the Isetta Export was available besides the 4-wheeler.
