A nice surprise during the weekend was the appearance of quad Goodwin-Alcos on an empty ballast train returning from Canberra for further loading at Marulan siding.
New South Wales had 165 in their 48 class, two of those trailing in this lash up. The leading pair are ex-South Australian 830 class.

Not quite the icon like the Vespa, but a nice example found in the back streets of Florence.

I couldn't quite believe my eyes when quite by chance this Mercedes Benz came bowling along Sydney's M1 Eastern Distributor Freeway at Woolloomooloo almost in the city's centre.
I later found out that this much modified LS model truck has a Cummins engine under the bonnet although that's about all I know about this marvellous looking machine.
This is the very last version of the old P601 saloon: the 1.1 with a VW Polo engine.
The 1.1 was based on the basic 1964 P601 Limousine.
In 1987 negotiations started between the DDR government and Volkswagen for using their know-how about small and cheap 4-stroke engines.
The first 4-stroke Trabant prototypes were made in 1988. Only two years later full production could start, but in fact much to late. There was no demand for the old-fashioned Trabant anymore, neither on the domestic market nor abroad.
With a mass of unsold vehicles AWZ was forced to quit all activities and the production plant in Zwickau was sold to VW.

Mr. Biker was enjoying the water front and showing off his sparkling Harley at the same time.
And the blurbs say:

Fort Lauderdale Beach has some of the best people-watching in South Florida.
They were invented by the Reverend Jonathan Scobie, an American Baptist minister living in Yokohama, Japan. The first model was built in 1869 in order to transport his handicapped wife. Today it remains as one of the most important modes of transportation in Pakistan used for traveling short distances within cities.
One of the major brands of auto rickshaws is Vespa (an Italian Company). Environment Canada is implementing pilot projects in Lahore, Karachi and Quetta with engine technology developed in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada that uses compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of gasoline in the two-stroke engines, in an effort to combat environmental pollution.
In many cities in Pakistan, there are also motorcycle rickshaws, usually called chand gari (moon car) or qingqi (after the Chinese company who first introduced these to the market).

Auto rickshaws are locally known as "Tuk Tuk".
It is a cute little ride.It is so small and compact that when ur sitting in it ur knees are actually touching your chin. And u will be amazed to see the number of ppl which can fit in this small thing. They got their name from the sound they make which is “tuk..tuk..tuk tuk….”

In the early 1950s several German companies were active in developing and producing microcars.
One of them was the former aircraft company Heinkel. In Spring 1955 a prototype Kabinenroller was launched.
Early 1958 Heinkel sold the license to an Irish firm. In 1961 the British Trojan purchased all production facilities. Trojan continued the production till Dec. 1964.
The Heinkel on the picture is an odd private conversion. The high roof and rear window are not original.
