The troubled department store chain House of Fraser is to close one of its Edinburgh stores, affecting 127 jobs. The closure was announced in June 2018 as the retailer unveiled plans to shut thirty one stores across the UK as part of restructuring plans. The store on Edinburgh's West End, built in 1935 as Binns, will close in early 2019.
With a huge sigh of relief to everyone in Edinburgh the world-famous Jenners, also owned by Frasers, is unaffected - it's true to say that Edinburgh without Jenners would be like London without Harrods.
This is the first of several photos and stories about the legendary store called Binns, on the corner of Hope Street and Princes Street.

From next week, the Connect C1 and C2 are replaced with numbered services 34 and 35 as part of the Ilkeston Network shake up, seeing the 35 run the current C2 route, then continue as a 34 to Ilkeston via Harrier Park, the Amberline route to Heanor and the 21 route via Marlpool and Ilkeston Hospital.
