Here we have Antonia. My foreigner number 41, who is also part of the collection for the "District 9" exhibition. She has lived in Cologne for many years and loves the Rhineland and the people here. First she lived in Ehrenfeld, then - with the children - in Mülheim and now in Holweide. The allotment garden is only a few minutes walk away from her home and she spends a lot of time there. We had a nice chat. At first she only wanted to take photos of the garden, but then she changed her mind.

Another short but sweet encounter.. This is Maria, who was out doing some browsing and shopping. I liked the way her skin tone and reddish-brown hair complemented her blouse, so I asked if I could take a few pictures. She kindly agreed.

Thanks, Maria :-)

Re starting my 365.

So, this is.approximately 13140 ft above sea level.

It was fucking cold, and I was bright enough to leave my jacket in the car, because hey! its summer!

Anyway, so this is the Pir Panjal range (inner Himalyas) in Gulmarg, district Baramula ,Kashmir. ( about an hour from Srinagar)

I could see the whole Kashmir valley below.

2 days after I shot this picture there was a terrorist attack 20 minutes from there. 4 days later there was another terrorist attack which killed 8 army personnel.

May they rest in peace.

My romance with Kashmir, as I would call it started when I was 9 years old.

Its been 10 years and I keep coming back for more.

God has given Kashmir everything in abundance. Its one of the most breath taking places in the world.

The 9/11 memorial in Weehawken, New Jersey

The memorial marks the site where about 60,000 people were evacuated by ferry from Manhattan to New Jersey and received medical attention, water, and food on Sept. 11, 2001, after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The memorial consists of two trident-shaped beams, which served as supports for the towers, salvaged from the WTC site, which stand 8 feet wide, 30 feet long, and weigh 50,000 pounds. The memorial also includes a lawn, infinity pool and fountain.

Over the years I have collected sand from many of the beaches I have been to. I love it!! It keeps me close to the ocean even though I am so far away. This is a sampling of some of my sand- there is sand from several different places in Mexico and the U.S., from various Caribbean islands, from Turkey and Fiji just to name a few. I have many more beaches on my bucket list so I guess I will soon need a new shelf...

Beach Sand by Raymond A. Foss

Maybe it is the memories

the change of pace that brings us there

the sense of vacation

maybe the smell of the place

the sights of the gulls, the dunes, the grasses

but oh it is the feel of it,

the crunch and slide of it

the feeling of beach sand

so different from dirt, soil, loam

no, not earthy, moist, rich,

but oh so granular and gritty

even when wet,

moveable paper spreading under toes

sliding beneath the soles

smoothing my skin

clearing my mind

unburdening me of the rest

drawing me to the tactile, the feel

of beach sand
