Stranger 41 – Maël
I almost walked past Maël, he was making his way out of a shop and I was walking past but I just got too curious and had to ask him. I asked him if I could take his picture and he told me no, he asked me what the project was, I explained the project to him. Maël told me he was shy, didn’t like seeing pictures of himself but he liked the project so he agreed to play along.
Maël works in retail. He doesn’t like it very much. Clients can be rude sometimes and that’s something Maël doesn’t like at all. He wants to do a training course to become a dog handler. The relationship between humans and animals drew him to that prospect. I noticed the tattoo on his neck and asked him what it meant. “That’s the Isis cross, it’s a symbol of life, I went through a lot of tough times in my life. Before, I used to get mad at people in fast food restaurants when my meal was late, when my order wasn’t ready. I was rude sometimes. Being on the other side, working in retail, having people be rude towards me made me realise that was wrong. I’m better than that now. We’re animals. Animals are more human than we are sometimes. You see what I mean?”
I took a few pictures of Maël, he was keen on a black background, I asked him if he’d mind if I took a profile view of him, showcasing his tattoo and that was the picture we both liked the most out of the ones I’ve taken of him.
Thank you very much Maël!

This Jordan Spreader has a long history with Colorado and Grande tracks. It is DRGW AX-41, and Rio Grande kept it stationed at Minturn back in the day. It would help keep snow clear of the tracks over Tennessee Pass. After Tennessee Pass closed, it spent a lot of time in the North Yard storage yard. It was used in 2003 when the Moffat got 80+ inches of snow. It was used again in Kansas on the KP at the end of 2006 and start of 2007. It then went back to the storage yard and sat. Finally, 13 years later, it looks like it might get some use again! UP is taking it west to Fraser as there has been a lot of snow up there this winter.

This spoonie body is starting to freak out a bit with the travel/stress/social-ness/lack of sleep that's been going on recently, and even though I have to wait until Saturday to start my Prednisone burst, I'm so so thankful for a quiet night tonight with room service, a glass of wine, and some straightening of the suitcase for Africa...
On the 9th February 2013 Class 41 no.41 1144-9 makes a hasty departure from the Immelborn station stop with the RE 0856 Eisenach to Arnstadt. Note the number plate covered in snow after climbing through the Thuringer Wald.
A few minutes earlier we could hear the engine departing from Bad Salzungen around three miles away with the regulator wide open. A magical experience in 2013.

Every dog has it's day. My friends dog - Blackjack. Hes behind the mini-gate. Phew! Didn't jump on me..he's quite the jumper.

Okay so..today was the first day in 400+ days that I waited until past 10 PM to think of a photo. Even when I have those off days, I take something..anything! But I wasn't feeling it today and so my back up was going to be car headlights. Luckily, Blackjack came along. & another one for phone camera.
