Week 37 in 52 Weeks for Dogs and it's Tasku's 2nd birthday today! The time has gone incredibly quickly.

I had real trouble getting this shot, Tasku didn't want to be near the candles and a lot of persuasion was needed (in the form of biscuits). I tried without flash and with flash, through a snoot then through a softbox - and used four lots of candles as they burned down so fast. I've ended up with this one - the flash off camera through a softbox (manual, 1/4 power) but I was undecided which shot to use for the group - I had another which I really liked. Still not sure I made the right choice.

I am way behind with commenting both in the group and with my contacts. Apologies to everyone and I hope to catch up soon.

English Electric Type 3 Class 37 Co-Co diesel locomotive 37422 as operated by Direct Rail Services top and tailed with 37405 working the Abellio Greater Anglia Norwich- Great Yarmouth drags short set at Norwich Station at the end of the Great Eastern Main Line in Norfolk (UK).

An extremely rare example of a 50+ year old first generation diesel locomotive hauled service train.

37422 was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows and entered service as D6966 on February 11th 1965.

A wet and muddy morning and a few mills. An early start with a short drive to explore with Martyn, Camerashy - uk and MkWil.

Tone Mills is a complete water-powered cloth finishing works, established by the Fox Brothers and Co at the confluence of the River Tone and the Back Stream and dates from 1830. The remains of the water wheel remain in-situ and so too do all the line shafting and gearing. The Mill later had an electric motor installed to supplement the water-wheel during times of drought, although the water wheel continued to be used for many decades after. Put simply the mill comprises of a number of key areas to accommodate the various stages of production: A Fulling area, where wet cloth was dried, scoured, cleaned and milled to the desired finish. A dying room, adjacent to the fulling area which specialised in producing an indigo colouring. Reservoirs and Sluice gates, to manage the flow of water into the wheel chamber. The wheel chamber and a later power house.

The associated machinery for all the stages of production are all in-situ, making it an industrial archaeologists paradise.

The works finally closed in 2000 and production was moved to a more contemporary location. The buildings and machinery are Grade II* listed.

Missing some black and whites in this project. It's kind of funny that the very last shots end up being my favorites.

Easter bank holiday Monday, 21st April 2014

Having been a firm Leyland and Scania user, Newport changed direction by taking delivery of a batch of 6 Tridents (no's. 35-40) at the start of the new millennium. However, these weren't the first Dennis buses at Newport as some 50 years earlier Newport ran a handful of Dennis Lancet and Falcon single deckers.

In 2011, the Tridents undertook a major refurbishment programme and were the first buses in the fleet to receive the smart revised green double deck livery, giving them a new lease of life. Unfortunately no.38 was destroyed by fire as a result of an arson attack at the depot in December 2012.

last weekend, when i was in new york having some serious family time, my grandfather gave me this string of pearls. they were a replacement for another gift he tried to give me a month ago, but which mysteriously disappeared off of a fedex truck. the pearls belonged to my grandmother, constance. and before that, they belonged to my great-grandmother, rose. (don't you just love old names?). the original gift was also something that belonged to my grandma, and was something he had been saving for me since she passed away to give me when i got engaged. i never envisioned myself as the pearl-wearing type, but i have to say that i'm really loving it. there's really nothing better than wearing all that history around my neck. and so close to my heart.

it's been a busy week, we have to make some decisions about the future and that's not easy for us right now.

Buba is helping as always in her own way, but she also came a little too short, so I only have a quick snapshot of her today.
