Day 105
Went out for a walk this morning and took a variety of shots that range from pelicans, boats, bocce ball, people and plants. Looking through them all this particular shot of a young fern was the one that made me pause. I do have some of other shots from the day that I liked and those will be posted on my Flickr if you're interested. I find that I keep going to the same place for my photo walks. Because of this laziness, lazy in the sense that I'm sure there are other places to walk around but this place is the most convenient, I've made it a point to look differently at my surroundings each time. Today was kind of a smorgasbord of shots but the next time I think I'll focus solely on textures.
"When I grow up, I wanna work at Alfalfa's; Where the cheese is dairy free.
A birkenstocks, spandex, necktie, patchouli grocery store." Haha! Really great market though. :-)
Just a quick shot today as I had to run ahead of these two, turn, and snap before they ran me over with their miniature shopping carts. I liked the super neat rows of boxes and bottles.
If you need an easy POTD shot take a bunch of kids bowling, they are preoccupied and showing real emotions and you will have more shots than you know what to do with. This is my boy working a shot from release to impact... lot of fancy hand and footwork there.... 352.
Also, I got lucky and had a shot make the "Best Shot" flickr blog series yesterday.... blog.flickr.net/en/2009/12/18/your-best-shot-2009-seen-on...
I am very proud. Hope all is well. Thx bg
Pre-Thanksgiving xmas lights are showing up, going to be a good holiday I hope. Just glad there has been no sign of snow yet. Not really feeling it today photographically... 322
Random shot on the stairs. Its funny when that time comes that you are no longer worried about your kids on the stairs.
When it's hot in the summer, we love eating fresh, cold salads. For these salads, I always make the dressing. Bottled salad dressing has a weird aftertaste to me (probably preservatives). So my preference is to make my own. This one is the old stand by. I'll tell you how to make it, but I never write down ingredient quantities...it's just until it "tastes right." So, any quantities below are just suggestions (no idea how accurate they are). Taste it when you're done, and see if you need to add anything.
You'll need the following:
-Olive oil
-1 garlic clove, minced finely
-Kosher salt
-Pepper
-Honey
-Balsamic vinegar
-Dijon or stone ground mustard (whichever you have on hand)
After I mince the garlic, I put a little of the Kosher salt (it's very course) on the minced garlic and smash them together with my knife. Then, I add them to just a few tablespoons of the olive oil and stick it in the microwave for 10 seconds. This helps bring out the garlic flavor and makes it so it's not so bitter. Add more olive oil (usually about 3/4 c. total) to a large measuring cup or bowl. Add about 1 tsp of salt and some dashes of ground black pepper to the oil. Then, add about 1-2 Tbsp honey, 2 tsp mustard, and probably a 1/4 to 1/2 c. of balsamic (when in doubt add less at first and add more if it needs it). Whisk everything together until incorporated. Taste it, and add more oil, vinegar, honey, or mustard as needed. Enjoy!
It was a really nice day today - Sun shining but absolutely freezing. I walked down the stairs ready to set off on my journey to work and the first thing i saw was these flowers, thought they looked lovely.
Slightly wonky picture as didnt have much time to spend on it.
Through some interesting circumstances, I ended up in Biloxi, MS this weekend. For a guy that has only really lived in a major metropolitan area, grew up and lived in the north east, Biloxi is quite a worlds away.
I have never really spent much time in the South nor the deep South. It was quite an eye opening experience.
It just happened that while I was down there, the rodeo was in town and I got to see my first rodeo.
This image captures the raw speed and emotions from the cowboy, the horse, and the scared cattle who just seems to be running for dear life.

Pieces from the Cozy Kitten line.
In the early days of eBay, I was able to buy most of my collection for a fair price. Pieces are from ~ 1958 to 1960.
