in 1792, Richard Parsons, who operated a blast furnace and a forge at Cwm-y-Felin, leased the property to George Croker Fox of Falmouth and associates, two of whom subsequently were Peter Price and Samuel Tregelles.
With his foundry and engineering expertise, Price was able to develop the Neath Abbey ironworks from a bulk pig-iron producer to a precision engineering establishment. Being Quakers, they were, unlike most iron works, not involved in the production of cannons.
Instead, Neath Abbey Iron Company were producers of engines, cylinders and other parts for Cornish pumping engines, blowing engines, marine engines, iron hulled ships, locomotives, rails and chairs, rolling mills, machine tools, gas plant, and a great variety of iron castings and forgings.
Locomotives were manufactured which were improvements on those produced by Stephenson and one of these was the ‘Industry, a model of which can be seen at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea.
Venturing into marine steam engines led the company into building iron steamships on the Clydach including the 1,000 ton ‘EllenBate’ which was the first iron ship built in Wales.

ST SAPPI-3 climbs the small grade into the village of Shawmut in Fairfield, Maine with a train from the SAPPI paper mill in Skowhegan bound for Waterville yard. Leading the way up towards the Kennebec Street crossing was MEC 351, an EMD GP40 wearing Guilford Rail System paint. As of the time of posting this, 351 has been out of service in Waterville for quite some time, and I would be surprised if CSX puts it back into service ever again. I was initially not thrilled to get it leading this SAPPI-3 since I'd chased it leading this very train before, but looking back on it now I'm glad I was able to get as many shots of it as I could.
3 of 3 in Braamfontein because I am too impatient to wait till later! Won't be posting again for a little while. I have two big deadlines for Friday. Wish me luck.

#3 in this series. I'm currently traveling on the road and experimenting with just using an ipad 2 for editing. This shot was taken with a Canon T3. 3 exposures, , with tripod. HDR created on iPad with "mobile HDR" Further editing with "Snapseed" Uploaded to Flickr using "Flickstackr" Watermark applied via "iwatermark" Only the iPad was used on this shot.

Fun together on a rare warm summer day. Bri was a good sport, considering all her toys kept getting taken away from her.
The 3rd round of the Mullingar Road League 2012. This 5km race was held on 16th May 2012 at 8PM. There was a huge attendance at the race. The weather was a little better than previous nights with a soft shower of rain on an otherwise warm evening. This was race number 3 in the series effectively marking half way in the 5 race series.
The Mullingar Harriers athletic club organise this league of races every May for the promotion of participation in sport and physical activity and to honour the memory of Pat Finnerty, a former Chairman of the Harriers who gave enormous service to Mullingar Harriers and athletics over many years. The Road League caters for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities.
The Road League is run on traffic free roads and trails in Belvedere House and Gardens and Park just outside Mullingar on the Tullamore Road. Belvedere House is situated in 160 acres of lakeside parkland on the shores of Lough Ennell.
