Cougars gain momentum with invitational victory

McFarland had just dominated its invitational Saturday, so cross country coach Amador Ayon told his runners to take Sunday off.
Top runner Alfonso Cisneros stayed quiet, but one of the other runners looked at Ayon like he was crazy.
"You know Alfonso's not taking the day off," the young Cougar said.
"Well, I'm telling him to take the day off," Ayon responded. "If that means he runs three miles instead of 10, well, that's his choice."
Such is life at McFarland, where chasing the school's 10th state cross country title is serious business -- and within reach, if early meets are any indication.
The Cougars dominated the five-kilometer Jim White Invitational, scoring 23 points to Madera South's 53 and Ridgeview's 82. McFarland runners finished 2-3-4 (Cisneros in 15:55, Eddie Garcia in 16:03 and sophomore Marco Perez in 16:04) and also placed juniors Eduardo Bautista sixth in 16:15 and Marco Camargo eighth in 16:17.
"We like to have a course that's a little more demanding, and for whatever reason, we didn't," Ayon said. "There were a lot of turns, and some areas were wet, but I was happy with the way the kids ran."
Foothill's Chris Schwartz, the defending Division I state champion, won the race in 15:42, erasing an early lead built by Madera South's Isaiah Lozano, who faded to ninth.
The rest of the top 10 was about McFarland serving notice that last year's third-place Div. IV state finish isn't good enough.
The team hasn't cut back on workouts at all yet -- with some runners, including the dogged Cisneros, making a long run every morning and then another in the afternoon -- and will take part in the adidas Cross Country Classic in Portland, Ore., in October.
All of that will be a prelude to the section meet Nov. 20 and state meet Nov. 29, both at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Ridgeview dominated its second straight girls race, placing five runners in the top 12 to rout Madera South 41-73. Foothill was third with 79.
Madera South's Alisha Brown won the race in 19:41, with Burroughs' runners Jennifer Speer (19:45) and Jenny Durtschi (20:07) in second and third. Ridgeview was led by Jessica Huizar in fifth with a 20:17.

Made for the Paper Smooches Sparks Anything Goes Challenge
I have been longing for my new PS goodies to arrive in time for this week's challenge - and yesterday was THE day!! This used the new Balloon dies. I haven't had much for making young people birthday cards, so they're a welcome addition to my crafting stash. The top red balloon is also cut from the base cardstock, using a partial die cutting method, so the little white 'shine' shows through the red balloon. The '2' is negative cut from the base layer also, with acetate behind for a little 'peek-a-boo' fun. I put a little glossy accents along the 'shine' of each balloon for some real shimmer.
I used PS Sentiment Sampler for the sentiment.
The Happy die is from Simon Says Stamp, The pinking and '2' die from Papertrey Ink. The confetti and swirls are part of the PS balloons set.

Same details as the B & W version, but this is untouched. I'm not a big fan of the shadows in the foreground, but as a learning curve, and the 2nd attempt, here once again is some long exposure work taken with a Parweld shade 8 welding screen. 79 seconds, with a little less light intrusion, but still good fun.

I had fun making up "my own" butterfly colors. There's only a couple of them that are true to nature the rest are nature inspired.See my photostream to view more pics of this belly casting and/or view pics of the other belly castings that I've done.
The Illinois Central "Gruber" line once passed through the city of Dixon, IL on its way southward. After the tracks were pulled up, three stone bridges over 3 different streets were kept in placed, and continue to be maintained by the city. A gardener had just watered his lawn and made a puddle in the street, so I took advantage of it, here on second street in Dixon, IL. As AM 1460 WIXN-AM blared from my car radio, playing "Everyobody needs somebody sometime.." it made the mood complete.
My second attempt when I realized that the back was waaay to large. Tried a quick fix, which makes it wearable, though not particularly pretty in the back.Made major changes to the pattern for the third attempt which are described in the other images. Still and all do like this dress very much.
I had 2 huge wood piles to burn, I burned one on Sunday.
This one was close to the road and with the wind from the south it might have blinded traffic with the smoke.
But today after the rain the front started moving in and the wind shifted to from the north so I lit this one off also.

Vienna, Austria: While in Vienna, we spent 5 nights at Le Meridien hotel. The hotel's location is great just across the way from the Opera House. We had a 2 room executive suite with 2 bathrooms, which was nice as well - decorated in a modern style.
