Peru, The Shamanās Journal
I have taken a boat from Puno to the Island of Tequela (Happy Island) ..A captain and one crewmember ā Cipriano Machaca and Ciriaco Huatta Quispe. The Island is 31/2 hours from Puna by boat. It sits out in the middle of Lake Titicaca (the highest lake in the world 12,500 ft above sea level) We docked at Uros Is. on the way which is an artificial Island made of floating reeds. There I had the experience of stepping through the reeds at a weak point and sending my right leg into water up to my knee.
I stayed over night on Tequela Is. with a local family- 50 intes - 75cents per night ā no water- no bathroom- but good warm wool blankets. To get to the ājohnā you walk to the plaza- go to the church- then three doors to the left. The men of the island walk around knitting finest hats and sashes Iāve seen in Peru. The women play volleyball in their traditional dress. This is one of the most magical, beautiful, untouched places Iāve ever been ā¦
