The New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (abbreviated as NGC) is a catalogue of deep-sky objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888 as a new version of John Herschel's General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars. The NGC contains 7,840 objects, known as the NGC objects. It is one of the largest comprehensive catalogues, as it includes all types of deep space objects and is not confined to, for example, galaxies. Dreyer also published two supplements to the NGC in 1895 and 1908, known as the Index Catalogues, describing a further 5,386 astronomical objects.

This composite image of NGC 281 contains X-ray data from Chandra (purple) with infrared observations from Spitzer (red, green, blue). The high-mass stars in NGC 281 drive many aspects of their galactic environment through powerful winds flowing from their surfaces and intense radiation that heats surrounding gas, "boiling it away" into interstellar space. This process results in the formation of large columns of gas and dust, as seen on the left side of the image. These structures likely contain newly forming stars. The eventual deaths of massive stars as supernovas will also seed the galaxy with material and energy.

I'm already supposed to be at Andy's drinking for his birthday, and I ran out of time for my photo today. Oh well. Here's a shot of the sky outside my house :)

The Kasperlitheater is a Swiss tradition, made huge by Jörg Schneider's performances - he performed them starting in the 1960s, and the first of them were produced for vinyl records 40 years ago. They're still being sold in the tens of thousands today, and Jörg Schneider died just two months ago.

Kasperlitheaters are always meant for the younger kids. There's the red-hooded hero, Kasperli, and usually a witch or robber as main opponent. Regularly, the sotryteller will have the figures ask the kids something or other - "who took the present, it was just here a moment ago?" - and the kids will shout and help out. It's really a lot of fun for the little ones; I'm sure there's similar theaters all over the world.

This particular theater was visiting a birthday party of a friend's girl today, and told a story of the birthday of a princess. Lots of fun was had - the host was a true professional and the performance was really smooth, with matching stage props (like the robber's cave in the woods here) and great voice and puppet acting.

I really love playing with color! I am constantly growing my library of color combinations. this is one of my favorites so far. each one of those stripes was a separate layer. by the time I finished this, my computer was crawling to process everything.

Catching light while driving

Its our canadian Thanksgiving and I am just soon thankful for all of these moments I have captured thanks to you ladies for the inspiration!

Autumn has set in big time in Belgium. Not really feeling like to venture outside. So today's is a close up tabletop of these shells that are part of an African art object.

Wow, it's been a long while since I've actually imported a photo into CS5/6. I've been lazy. I really like lightroom, but something about going into CS5/6 makes me try new things with my images. Well, anyway, here are my new shoes. My first pair of shoes like these, and they are awesome. So comfortable and the look good too. OH, AND BY THE WAY, THIS IS THE FIRST SHOT FROM MY LEICA LENS. Are you guys as excited as I am?
