The 261 lives again. Under steam again for the first time since 2008 after undergoing its federal mandated overhaul. 261 is a 1944 Alco 4-8-4. Thanks to Bob Ball for lighting assistance. It took both of our flood lights.

Am 09.07.21 hat die 261 106-9 hier im Dormagener Rangierbahnhof ihre aus Krefeld-Uerdingen mitgebrachten Wagen mit den Wagen aus Dormagen zusammen rangiert. Nach Fertigstellung des Zuges fährt dieser weiter nach Köln-Gremberg.

The sunset strip. As we we're diving east last night, the sunset in our rear view mirror was spectacular enough that we pulled over so that I could capture it before it disappeared into the night.

I've been AWOL for the last couple of weeks. A combination of late pregnancy, start of term and paperwork overload and stroppy toddler means I have barely picked up my camera some weeks :-(
Luckily a visit to katy_123's house today inspired me to actually start uploading some of the shots I have taken... who knows... playing catch up - I may make it to 365/365 by 31st December!

With a Great Northern passenger car being pulled along, the 261 and 2719 sit together for an epic evening of night shooting.
Keeping the boiler hot while waiting for another run of the North Pole Express at St Paul Union Depot.
Jim French (on the right), and I spent many a night in the 1990's as night firemen on the 261 and had great adventures and conversations.

SH2-261 is also known as Lower's Nebula Named after Harold and Charles Lower who discovered this nebula in 1939. It's located in Orion near the border of Gemini. It's a faint emission nebula made up predominantly of ionized hydrogen gas. It contains several fine structures and pillars that are best appreciated while zoomed in.
