I've been gone forever! This past month has been crazy. We moved into a new house and I didn't have time or internet access for a long time. I'm back now. :D

Explore #25. Thanks! :) That's my highest position in Explore.

The Birdcage was raced by Gaston "Gus" Andrey, a Swiss born garage owner living in the States. He had a dealership in or near Boston.

He raced this Tipo 61 in the 1960 SCCA (National Sports Cars Championship) and one race in 1961, always with #25.

Thanks, Chris!

Well, not really, but that's what they made me think of. I stumbled upon this photo that I always liked but never uploaded and thought I should upload it before spring. Over here the weather is very moody - one day spring, the other day snow, or spring down in town 500 meters deeper down, and winter on the mountain. Color temperature chosen to emphasize how cold it felt. SOOC. Explore 2019-03-15 #25. Thanks for all the views and faves!

I'm an Elsa junkie! These dolls usually terrify me but Elsa is so precious. I love that they made a mold for her instead of using the one in the prototype picture. She's going for upwards of $90 on Ebay but I scored her for $25 thanks to Target clearance! Weeee!!!!

Earlier this week Glen Perkins announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. Over the course of his 12 year career, all with the Minnesota Twins he appeared in 409 games, pitched 624.1 Innings, racked up 504 strikeouts, saved 120 games while earning a 3.88 ERA and a record of 35-25. Thanks for the fun memories Glen! You'll always be a part of Twins Territory!

I went to Roosevelt Island - a very small island with a network of trails that sits in the Potomac River between DC and Virginia - today at dusk. I had a hard time choosing one of the many photos I took here as my photo of the day (I uploaded a few others to my stream), and this is somewhat atypical of my style, being a very busy composition. But there's a certain order to the chaos that I like.

edit: Explored - peaked at #25. Thanks all!

Found this at an estate sale, as a gift to my gun friend Matthew G. It was $15, but marked down to $11.25 thanks to the discount at the estate sale.

I found a page discussing Gustav Genschow Parabellum ammunition at iaaforum.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9198&star... ... You can also buy a modern reproductions of the 2 boxes here for $13 and $15 at www.cmrfirearms.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=96&... and www.cmrfirearms.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=200...

... However, these are originals, with original bullets -- and all in a nice display case.

And earlier Gustav ammo boxes go for $700 at www.cmrfirearms.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=361...

... So these are probably worth something! If Matthew keeps these another 40 years, who knows how much they'll be worth?

* Masbrough

Another forest arises by the day it almost seems, cleared in 2016, the 'central reservation' looking south over the once complex rail infrastructure around Masbrough Station South signalbox, a picture of which can be seen at lower left, from 1976. At top left, 66723, Chinook is drawing to a halt at Sheffield PSB's, S0218, protecting the Holmes level crossing and there may well be a local DMU service coming along from Sheffield to take the Holmes Chord into Rotherham, so holding up the scrap wagon working. At the far left edge of this picture, an old-style lamp standard can be seen, still extant from the old days and now swamped by the surrounding vegetation, NON of which was ever prevalent of course in the days, and before, of the earlier picture at lower left. The lamp standard in the 1976 shot, can be seen standing, erect at that time, midway between the Masbrough Station South Jn. box and the Midland's train operations centre, the black-looking house at the top right. Operations were ultimately transferred from here, and other locations in the area, to the new 'Sheaf House', British Railway's new and badly designed eyesore at Sheffield Midland Station; it was quickly demolished after it fell out of use! The small concrete building behind and to the left of the Midland's operations centre is also still extant but at this time of year is totally hidden by the 'greenery'. The signaller, in a white sleeved shirt and no doubt a tie, can be seen next to the window at this end of the box. What looks like a class 31 (changed from 25, thanks to A.Wynn) loco approaches on the down fast with a rake of ballast wagons, heading up from the south towards Doncaster; the slow lines are over on the left are now technically, the 'Old Road'. Although not a train-spotter as such or a wagon spotter and recorder fore that matter, the complete rake of PHA(REDA) wagons can be seen at top right, passing the 'Red Bull' pub, which looks more than ever as if its closed for good. Although I didn't manage to get a good shot of the wagons numbers, these are the ones identified from the pictures taken at an appropriate angle to read the numbers, there were 20 in all, here are the 14 identified-

16202, 16019, 16020, 16021, 16102, 16223, 16081, 16079, 16080, 16309, 16077, 16076, 16075 & 16222, 14 in all, numbered from the loco end.

This is the 6Z70, Peterborough West Yard, via Doncaster to Booths Scrapyard at Masbrough a timing load of PHA(REDA), side tipping self-discharge wagons, ready fro another scrapping session at Booths..
