The weather turned and even the whale-watching boats aren't much fun right now, but with the extreme tides, there's some shore-bird viewing to be had at low tide.

"Postcard: Collecting specimens"
24. Dear doctor,
We arrived on the island at midnight
by boat, the natives trouping through with each
case as if outsiders arrived every night.
Moonlight basks many creatures on the beach,
and by day, I've never seen the world so green
or deep as the reefs and chasms. We dive
with masks and snorkels out past submarines
into caves where we catch our dinner live
in the shadows. We fear nothing. Not spiders
or villagers, tiki torches, myths, each
other, or ourselves. In fact, we've discovered
an urchin that will grow limbs back once detached.
We'll ship some home to you. For now, we're out
in the world to explore and devour it.

I miss the forest.
Today, I saw a tree, cut. It was dying. It will be missed. That part of the street will be empty.
