We departed the Lambsgate Inn and stopped at a great antique and collectables shop on our way to Shenandoah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway. A good place to spend spare cash! We were disappointed at the lack of colour in the forest but seeing a few wild deer helped make up for it. We had lunch in a lodge there and had a beautiful view of the valley below. That night we spent in Alexandria just outside of Washington D.C., so that evening we drove into the city. We thought we would show the girls Arlington Cemetery as they had not had a chance to see it when they had been there. We were in for a surprise. They have built a huge covered car park and welcome centre come administration offices near the entrance. You now have to pay to park. We decided to walk to the tomb of the unknown soldier which Peter and I have never seen, although this was our third visit. We were in store for another surprise. The site is guarded all day long in a very official manner by the army I would presume. We were lucky enough to catch the changing of the guard, a very ceremonious procedure. We had dinner that night in Georgetown, in the same restaurant we went with Liz’s parents.
