RavenStone Castle Series: 1
I had no idea there was a castle in Illinois...but here's one, still under construction. I was fortunate to stumble upon the building on a day that they were having an open house.
The castle is a private residence, but is also a "bread and breakfast," and has been built by a couple who have a beautiful tapestry business.

The groundbreaking for the new St. Bernard Branch Library took place April 21 at the corner site on Vine Street and McClelland Avenue.
Fandene, Senegal — Heifer beneficiary. Suzanne Ndione and her husband, Edouard. Edouard used to herd his sheep in the open bush but now brings food to them for zero-grazing, especially important since they’re trying to grow delicate tree seedlings in and around their home compound and don’t want to lose them to being nibbled on. The couple live in a family compound in Fandene, 8 children, some of whom were making palm baskets when we were there for the interview. For food they grow peanut, millet, cowpeas, and also live on mangoes. Suzanne collects herbs from wild tress to make tea, three bundles for 50 CFA. Kinkeliba is the name of the ubiquitous sweet tea that men are constantly drinking. She also makes brooms out of the palm fronds to sell. All of her daughters are in school. She never went because parents didn’t condone it for girls. Times are changing. “Anybody who doesn’t go to school, they are lost forever,” she said. They have rice to eat but nothing else -- they buy rice with palm product proceeds, like their brooms and baskets. A whole days work for this family will buy them one bag of rice. Edouard Demba Ndione, the husband, once a week visits all the animals in Fandene and tells people if animals are not fed well, not clean enough, and he treats wounds and gives vaccinations...for no pay. Edouard and Suzanne have a son at university in Dakar (the capital) and he wants to study in germany. With less rain in Senegal now, not as much production on all agricultural fronts. Mango trees are not producing as much, and income is down. Edouard’s cows are all gone now, as they were too hard to feed and water. The sheep are his families primary animals. (Project # 21-1702-01)

A group of researchers review and discuss the freshly captured footage of a known ship wreck Montana on board of the research vessel R/V Storm in Thunder Bay, Lake Huron. Lake Huron is seen reflected in the window of the vessel.

Group of researchers work on developing an artificial intelligence robotic system that will autonomously search for shipwrecks and map the sea and lake floor.
They use of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVS) and remotely operated vehicles (ROVS) to explore the lake floor. The explorations will generate large datasets to be used for training and validating machine learning models for shipwreck detection.
The researchers include prof. Katie Skinner from the University of Michigan Engineering, her graduate student Advaith Sethuraman, prof. Guy Meadows from Michigan Tech, prof. Corina Barbalata from Louisiana State University and Wayne R. Lusardi, State Maritime Archeologist, DNR.
