The Thames Barrier is one of the largest movable flood barriers in the world.
The barrier spans 520 metres across the River Thames near Woolwich, and it protects 125 square kilometres of central London from flooding caused by tidal surges.
It became operational in 1982 and has 10 steel gates that can be raised into position across the River Thames. When raised, the main gates stand as high as a five-storey building and as wide as the opening of Tower Bridge. Each main gate weighs 3,300 tonnes.
Have not been out photographing in a couple of weeks, it is so cold here! Looking back over some of my fall shots and missing the colors. This was taken just as the sun came up over the horizon in the San Juan Mountains.

As I look out of my living room window I see we have snow, now I have decide if I can brave the cold and go out to photograph it. I admit the older I get the less excited I am about facing that white cold stuff which would mean leaving this warm room... Nine years is a long time. :-)
I'm still wading through past images, sometimes getting lost in the fog of memory, wondering how quickly so much time has passed and yet it seems like only yesterday, I guess that's why photos are like windows into another reality and sometimes they open briefly and we can step through and experience the joy of a wonder filled day still swirling in the mists of time.
