Neptune Fountain and Gloriette in the background in the park around the Schönbrunn Palace, a former imperial summer residence in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the most important cultural monuments in the country, since the 1960s it has been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna. The palace and gardens illustrate the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs. The sculpted garden space is called the Great Parterre. The French garden, a big part of the area, was planned by Jean Trehet, a disciple of André Le Nôtre, in 1695. It contains, among other things, a maze.

A kastély barokk stílusú császári rezidencia Bécs Hietzing nevű kerületében, Ausztria egyik legismertebb műemléke és turisztikai látványossága: magát a kastélyt évente másfélmillió látogató keresi fel, a parkot további 5,2 milliónyian tekintik meg. Mi csak a parkban sétáltunk - a gyerekeket a kastély belseje kevésbé kötötte volna le.

Le Havre, Normandy, France - pictures taken during a walking tour in the city in April 2003. As I often did, I added a day to my business trip so that air fare would be cheaper for the company (by adding a Saturday night to the trip), and I used it to take a train to visit two towns in Normandy.
Le Havre, kikötőváros a Szajna torkolatában Normandiában, Franciaországban. 2003. áprilisában jöttem ide vonattal Párizsból, közben megállva Rouenban. Üzleti utaimon akkoriban szokásos volt, hogy az olcsóbb repülőjegy érdekében a cég kifizette a szállást, ha egy szombat éjszaka is beleesett a kiküldetésbe, ilyenkor ezen a napon kirándultam vagy várost néztem, ezen a vasárnapon kivételesen Normandiában. A modern és jellegtelen Le Havre-ba az óceánpart és egy gyermekkori olvasmányom hozott, Michel Quoist Dani naplója ugyanis itt játszódott.
Le Havre is situated on the right bank of the estuary of the river Seine on the English Channel, remains deeply influenced by its employment and maritime traditions. Its port is the second largest in France, for total traffic, and the largest French container port. The name Le Havre means 'the harbour' or 'the port'. After the 1944 bombings the firm of Auguste Perret began to rebuild the city in concrete. The oil, chemical, and automotive industries were dynamic during the Trente Glorieuses (postwar boom) but the 1970s marked the end of the golden age of ocean liners and the beginning of the economic crisis: the population declined, unemployment increased and remains at a high level today. I personally felt inclined to visit the place for a Michel Quoist roman that takes place here and that I read as a teenager.
