we had (and still have) a large collection of little, plastic people, which were scanned for this cover. it was an old scanner with a full transparency hood, which gave a nice glow and texture to any object. i miss big transparency lids on scanners.

I apologize for the terrible scan quality. I don't have a scanner, and this image was scanned in 2002 after i returned from School in England.
This is the Vimy Ridge Memorial in Vimy France. This sculpture is the weeping mother over the loss of life, at the front of the monument looking across the Douai Plain. Canadian Soldiers fought up the ridge towards this point in April 1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. As i am leaving today for Ottawa for the Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sunday, i wanted to post these two images of the Vimy Monument in honour of those who gave their lives in the service of our country.

Trees near the shore of Steepbank Lake near Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada.
A forest fire was threatening the resort during my stay at Steepbank Lake. We were on alert to evacuate via helicopter, should the need arise. We were not evacuated, but we did need to drive around the fire on our way home. It ended up that the forest all around the lodge did burn, but the lodge was saved.
