Second in the Holiday Angel series which brings together three popular collecting themes — the holiday season, angels and Barbie® doll. Barbie® is a beautiful angel wearing a stunning ensemble inspired by the festive hues of the holiday season. Her red and golden gown is accented with a white bodice and sleeves and a distinctively textured white fabric that flows beneath the long red skirt. Completing Barbie® doll's ensemble are delicate golden wings, a ribbon choker and a shining golden halo.

This is a wonderful replica of the space helmet from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have wanted one of these ever since I saw the movie as a young boy. It’s one of the most recognizable helmets in film history. The color is right, the curves are right and the milled aluminum collar sends this over the top. This replica was made by PredictaMike. He is one of the best makers of replicas out there. If you are interested in his work you will find him in my contact list.

BOX DATE: 2001

MANUFACTURER: Mattel

DOLLS IN LINE: Barbie; Ken; Petal Princess Kelly; Li'l Prince Tommy; Peacock Princess Lorena; Angel Princess Melody

MISSING ITEMS: Crown (shown on doll), mask, 6 hair clips, shoes, hair extension

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This is Rapunzel's iconic outfit from the 2000s. I remember seeing this ensemble plastered everywhere when the Barbie movie debuted. Granted, I never watched it, but I did admire the dolls. I guess that was the whole idea behind making the movie...for Mattel to sell dolls. So the fact that I didn't need a film to prompt me to want the Barbies worked better for them. Anyways, I recall I first had the McDonald's toy version of this Barbie. She had a removable skirt if memory serves me correctly. Of course, the full sized doll dons a removable gown. While my doll's ensemble isn't in the best condition, it is still absolutely lovely. I adore the sheer sleeves, golden glitter designs, and the fabric flower embellishments. I have a weakness for fabric flowers and embroidery. I use flowers similar to this for my own handmade dolly accessories and clothes. My doll technically has her crown, it's just still sewn to her head. It's one of those tiny tiaras that won't stay on once you remove the threads securing it into place. It's interesting that Barbie came with a hair extension when she has "growing" hair (I don't have any of her accessories as you can see here).

Taken on the roof garden of SF MOMA

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. Based on some comments, people think the orange semi-rectangle in the middle is another building but it is not. The geometric shape in the middle is a steel sheet (about twice my height and 1 inch thick) standing on the roof garden of SF MOMA. It really looks like a monolith, hence the 2001 title.

I had to get down very, very low to balance the size of the monolith with the buildings, and I was lucky that I could get this composition and catch the sun at the rim of the steel sheet at the same time. I wonder if the artist who created this monolith ever envisioned it being in balance with the two buildings and the sun...

One of the advantages I find in having a Flickr photostream is that I can organize and compare old work with new. It helps to evaluate new work and find new direction.

None of this sketchbook was painted to be seen, and so has a fresh and lively look made without any inhibition.

Seeing snow in Britain during April is unusual, and I've only dated the slide as April 2001. Checking the BBC Weather Centre's records for that month, it states that there was snow followed by sunny periods and unsettled weather. So I guess I took the picture between 21st and 28th April 2001.

BBC Weather Centre records state:

14th - 20th April 2001

Cold northerly or northwesterly winds prevailed as pressure rose to the west and depressions tracked southeast from the Iceland area to Denmark. There were showers, some thundery, from time to time, these showers became distinctly wintry during the 18th to the 20th with hail, sleet, and snow mixed in. North Wales and counties adjacent to the North Sea were especially affected. There was widespread overnight frost, Sennybridge/Powys fell to minus 4.4°C early on the 19th.

21st - 28th April 2001

Rather cold wet and unsettled as a complex area of low pressure encroached upon and established itself over the region from the North Atlantic. Bands of rain and showers often heavy with thunder and hail mixed in, were the prevailing feature of the weather, however most places had some sunny periods. The 22nd was very cold and wet as fronts became slow moving over western areas, Cynwyd/Denbighshire only just rose above 4°C. Bristol reported a heavy thunderstorm on the 24th and there was some damaging hail in Norfolk on the 25th. A funnel cloud was observed off the Norfolk coast on the 26th. The remaining days to the 28th saw more thundery showers in many areas.

Barbie® doll and her sleek greyhound step out into the cool day draped in their luxurious matching ensembles. Barbie® wears a charming 1920s-inspired blue grey faux fur trimmed dress with matching lined cape. Her four-footed companion also wears a blue grey cape with faux fur trim. A rhinestone leash adds showy sparkle to his sophisticated gait. Together they are a uniquely refined complement to any wind-swept season.

I built this frame in 2001 for a friend of mine. I'd previously built him a more traditional looking lugged frameset in the 1980's and after he wrote that off I produced this one. Things had changed by the 21st century and there was a clash of ideas between us, my friend being more used to a traditional diamond pattern lugged frame and myself looking toward modern styles. This is what we came up with incorporating his much loved Cinelli Spoiler bracket, 23" seat tube and then my tilt to modernity in a sloping top tube and some fillet brazing. There was no way he was having a threadless steerer. It was not originally the celeste green and the later paintwork was not so nice as the original stove enamel. My friend passed away recently and after a clean up and fettle, I am hoping to find someone who would like to buy the bike.

2001 brought a repeat of the previous year's great results. Thanks to an absolutely exceptional car, Schumacher and Ferrari won the Drivers' and Constructors' title an incredible three months before.

The Buick Rendezvous, introduced in the spring of 2001 as a 2002 model year vehicle, is a Midsize crossover SUV that was sold by Buick for the 2002–2007 model years. The Buick Rendezvous and its corporate cousin the Pontiac Aztek were GM's entry into the crossover SUV segment. As a four-door crossover with a front engine and optional all-wheel drive (Versatrak), the Rendezvous featured a four-speed automatic transmission with a V-6 engine. The SUV used the same platform as GM's short version minivan, Pontiac Montana and Chevrolet Venture. The Rendezvous provided a passenger and load carrying capacity not seen in the Buick lineup since the discontinuation of the Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon in 1996.

It was Buick's first truck in its lineup since 1923, and the Rendezvous was billed as a combination of the best attributes of a minivan (large cargo capacity, seating for up to seven), a luxury automobile (ride, handling, smoothness) and a sport utility vehicle (truck styling and available all wheel drive).

The Rendezvous was produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe, Mexico assembly plant, where it shared an assembly line with the Pontiac Aztek. Like the Pontiac Aztek, the Buick Rendezvous is based on a shortened version of GM's second generation U platform minivans. In lieu of four-wheel drive, the Rendezvous offered Versatrak, a full-time, fully automatic all-wheel drive system which provided sure-footed traction in inclement weather and could handle moderate off-road surfaces.

Buick benchmarked their Park Avenue sedan as the prototypical target for ride and handling for the Rendezvous. In order to provide a luxurious and responsive car-like ride, all Rendezvous came equipped with a fully independent rear suspension system regardless of optional content or trim level.
