PERSONAL FUN FACT: One of the things I love most about the Star Skater line is the interesting variations of Barbie! I recall a few years before owning this Asian gal, I saw the African American variation at the local flea market. She looked almost exactly like a Generation Girl Nichelle (with different makeup and a special body of course). If I had more money that day, I would have bought her. But my budget was tight, so I left her behind. It was always a regret of mine. In 2020, I found this lady at the local flea market from the same seller ironically. She had put out a fresh resupply of boxed dolls, all for great prices (like $10 and under). I couldn't leave this Asian Star Skater behind. Not just because I regretted not getting the AA doll...but also because she advertised Michelle Kwan on her package. Michelle Kwan was my absolute favorite figure skater when I was growing up. Colleen, Mom, Dad, and me all used to watch figure skating. I loved Michelle Kwan because she starred as Jasmine in the Aladdin on ice tv special. Mom and Dad even taped this for me so I could watch it whenever I wanted. Aladdin was always my favorite Disney movie, and I thought Michelle Kwan was the perfect Jasmine. Honestly I was too young to really know much of anything about figure skating or the skaters, but I still have so many fond memories of it. That is the reason I decided to name this lady Michelle Kwan--in tribute to my early childhood (and because she was advertised on the box)!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Although I never played with my dolls as royals, I did have a strange gravitation towards princess themed Barbies. I specifically had a soft spot for Rapunzel. I ogled the 1997 version in stores, but ended up with the 1999 doll for my ninth birthday. It's no wonder I couldn't leave this Rapunzel behind when I encountered her at an indoor flea market as a kid. I honestly had forgotten when/where I acquired this lady. However, my sister had a clearer recollection of this event. She says that I spotted Rapunzel on a table at an indoor flea market we used to frequent. Apparently, I took pity on the poor doll and decided to adopt her even though I didn't have a "need" for her. Considering, she was in very nice condition--still wearing her original outfit with uncut tresses. It is SO difficult finding dolls with floor length locks that are unscathed. I vividly recall one time I had a friend over, and she wanted to cut my cherished 1999 Rapunzel's hair just for the sake of it. Luckily, I strongly vetoed the idea, and advocated for my Rapunzel doll. The gal in this photo has retractable hair, so you can enjoy her mane at different lengths without cutting it. Of course, her entire head cannot do this. Only a small port with a designated chunk of hair can grow or shrink. While the idea of this gimmick is cool, in practice it looks a tad silly. Anyways, I simply cannot imagine my collection of 2000s Barbies without this dolly. She's such a familiar, beloved face. I'm so glad I rescued her all those years ago and gave her a loving home!

MISSING ITEMS: Cardboard pizza slice

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: My excuse to buy this circa 2003 was that it would be good to put in Robin's (Pet Pals Skipper) bedroom because I had a Skipper Pizza Hut shirt that I'd gotten second hand. That was just an excuse to buy a fast food place for dolls. At first, I set this up in Robin's bedroom and made Robin and her friends have pizza parties at their sleepovers--sort of like how Shelly put her Bratz spa in Yasmin's bedroom. You know, the sort of furniture piece that isn't supposed to be in your doll's home but you put in there as an excuse to play with it all the time. So, Shelly's Bratz and Winning London Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls were using a spa at home and my Skippers had a Pizza Hut right in someone's bedroom. It worked...Later, we actually used this as it was meant to be--a restaurant. I remember making various dolls work here, various dolls meet significant others here, various dolls go on dates here. It was a pillar in the dolly community. Truthfully, the table and chairs are really flimsy and hard to use. However, I think the pizza cooking/serving counter is AWESOME. It looks awesome and it's pretty well made. I really like how it looks like a real Pizza Hut--but for Barbie!

***My doll is wearing a nightgown that was sold with a matching girl sized nightie in the early 2000s.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Ah, Dream Glow Barbie. Although I didn't have her as a kid, she reminds me of my childhood. I vividly recall the commercials for this doll. I also remember seeing her in stores for quite a while. I totally would have gotten her too...if she hadn't been on that darned plushy body. It's funny that I loved Cabbage Patch dolls when I was very small (who had hard plastic heads with cloth bodies). However, I found Barbies marketed for sleeping with the same cloth bodies to be creepy. Funnily enough, I would have enjoyed the gimmick of dolls like Dream Glow Barbie. I liked to dress my favorite dolls in matching nightgowns to my own and sleep with them. I did this with Sparkling Jasmine, Jewel Girl Teresa, etc. I was a fussier adult collector in the early days. I wouldn't keep all the Barbies I found in bins. However, the nostalgia I felt for this Dream Glow gal ensured her adoption into the family. I believe she was part of the 2012 "Happy Family Lot" we found at the flea market. Although, I wasn't sure even back in 2015 when I first uploaded this gal's picture to Flickr. It sounds right to me, although getting so many doll bins over the years can be confusing. I did get fragments of her outfit and accessories from the lot, but not enough to dress her in. So to pay homage to my childhood days of wearing/buying the matching girl and doll nightie sets, this Dream Glow Barbie gets to wear one. This particular nightgown is the most special I have in my collection. It was one of the last things Mom bought for me when she was alive. I picked it out specially for my prized 2001 Sparkling Jasmine doll! This Barbie's cool pink hair and pony tailed hair styled looks fabulous with the outfit I chose for her. She also has a very beautiful face--I definitely would have played with her as a kid if she didn't' have a cloth body.
