20005 was new to Lothian Buses as 20005.

Seen here in Musselburgh.

A prime time location, last year, I caught this bus on the 113, the route had an investment of Wright Eclipse 2s under the Lothian Country Buses name, and a few years later, the route was given Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 allocations, These buses are the usual buses for the Service 124 and commonly used on the 113.

*Dennis Tridents were also used within the Eclipse times.

This bus was part of the doom of Wrightbus and Lothian's partnership with Lothian and its Subsidiaries, although, Every bus in EastCoastBuses is a Wrightbus.

The Wright Eclipse 3's and Wright Eclipse Gemini 3's were ordered within a matter of a year for a modernised fleet. Build Quality in these buses was not like the previous generations of these buses so none of these types was ordered again.

The Wrightbus fall though is mainly because of the failed Wright Streetair EV, which is a Lothian Exclusive, which has already been withdrawn, since 2020. It proved to be the key for bus companies over the nation to look over and when other companies ordered from Wrightbus, most were also met with a disappointing outcome in the build quality.

Since the selling to the new owners, there has been a positive impact, with deals with Ireland's "Translink" and the First Group.

Wrightbus has also happily given Lothian demonstrators without reluctance to try and grab the partnership over ADL again some might speculate.

In March 2023, this bus was renumbered 515!

As the new livery goes across the East Coast Buses fleet, as of the 15th of May 2022, surprisingly the Wright Eclipse Gemini 3's don't have any out of the batch of 8 in the new livery meanwhile, all 15 of the Wright Eclipse 3's have obtained it.

The focus continues to be on the Wright Eclipse Gemini 2's which have a better reputation within an enthusiasts world, although everyone has their own opinions.

A closer view of some of the locos on Buxton TMD on 12th July 1986. This one features 20302, 20301, 20177 & 20005. The renumbering by BR into the Class 20/3 sequence was short-lived and it was done to indicate the locos were dedicated to working Peak Forest aggregate trains. 20302 was the former 20059 and 20301 was formerly 20023. I assume they reverted to their original numbers once the "experiment" was over.

If I recall correctly, the Class 20s on show here were being dual-braked: part of a huge program at the time.

It was always worth the journey from Portsmouth to attend Crewe Works Open Days. I just wish I'd taken more photos!

Although my records show at least 20197 and 20166 in shot, the only identifiable one is 20005. The overhaul seemed to make little difference to her life-span. Withdrawn 5 years later in July 1989, she was taken to MC Metals in Glasgow and cut-up during November 1990. RIP.

The wires are down at Wath yard in this shot from May 1982 and there is evidence of track rationalisation as Class 20s nos. 20066 and 20005 depart in the direction of Mexborough with a mixed freight working. My vantage point for this picture is the steps leading down from Moor Road to the loco shed, which is out of shot to the right.

New to East Coast Buses in August 2018, the vehicle was captured in Regent Road inbound from North Berwick on Service 124. The road is built round the southern slopes of Calton Hill. The Nelson Monument in the background is one of a number of landmarks on the hill, which was Edinburgh’s first public park.
