Dark skies above the reeds of the Broads National Park.

After my previous shoot at Mudeford, using an adapted 35mm f/2 on the A7s but having to narrow the aperture to reduce lens coma, I decided to take the plunge on the Sony FE28mm.

It's a slightly unusual focal length for astrophotography- that's what had been delaying my decision- but these shots from its first assignment show the focal length conundrum is the only thing to overcome.

It's bright (through the EVF), sharp, coma-free and seems to have minimal vignetting, all with that fast f/2 aperture. It's instantly cemented its place in my kit bag and I'm looking forward to cracking on with some milky way shots as the season progresses. It's only cloud cover that's prevented me testing that sooner.

Peter Waterman’s former British Railways Brush Traction Type 4 Co-Co class 47/4 diesel-electric locomotive number D1501 of Finsbury Park Motive Power Depot passes beneath bridge 20 (Manchester Road) and by Bury South signal box 17 signal (down Broadfield home 2) on the Up & Down Broadfield line on the East Lancashire Railway in Bury with the 09:16 Bury Bolton Street to Heywood (1H50) (formed of M4937, M4895, M4992, 35455, M1833, M4873). Thursday 4th July 2019

Note, D1501 was built Brush Traction (works number 343) at the Falcon Works in Loughborough in autumn 1962 for British Railways as number D1501, being renumbered 47402 in February 1974. It was named Gateshead at Gateshead Traction Maintenance Depot on 25th November 1981 and was stored unserviceable on 1st October 1986. To allow it to be moved for repairs it was restored to traffic on 6th October 1986 but upon arrival at Crewe works it was decided to scrap rather than repair it. The scrapping decision was rescinded and after repairs it was restored to traffic in May 1988, the nameplates being removed in the same month. It was stored unserviceable on 22nd February 1990 having been taken out of service during the previous month, was restored to traffic in week ending 14th March 1990, and was withdrawn from Immingham Traction Maintenance Depot on 19th December 1990 and stored. It was restored to Immingham Traction Maintenance Depot on 4th February 1991, was stored serviceable on 25th July 1991, was restored to traffic on 11th October 1991, was stored unserviceable on 1st November 1991, was restored to traffic on 21st February 1992, was stored serviceable on 5th March 1992 and unserviceable four days later, was restored to traffic on 1st May 1992, and was withdrawn from Immingham Traction Maintenance Depot on 8th June 1992 and stored. It was sold for preservation to Peter Waterman in April 1993, arriving on the East Lancashire Railway on 6th June 1993 where it was renamed Gateshead on the same day. The nameplates were removed in 2009 during restoration as D1501 which was completed in December 2009

In the distance, an eastbound Santa Fe freight---which has just met this one--climbs along at Allard. It's still a long way--UP--to the top. The grass is bright green here only in the spring. Lothian Country's 190 SN13 BFV a Voith/Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban 2, on the service 276 to Bathgate, Wester Inch via Houstoun Industrial Estate, Ladywell, St John's Hospital, Craigshill, Livingston the Centre, Bellsquary, Polbeth, West Calder, Addiewell, Loganlea, Blackburn at Ash Grove and Bathgate (Blackburn Road, A89, South Bridge Street, North Bridge Street, Menzies Road, Morrisons, Whitburn Road and Leyland Road).

190 was new to Lothian Buses in early to mid 2013 along with 176 - 189.

2016 seen 190 get repainted and transferred to East Coast Buses with the fleet number being altered with a 10××× prefix added making 190 become 10190.

In 2017, 186 - 189, with 190 returning back to Lothain Buses, were all painted into Skylink livery for the launch of service Skylink200, 176 - 185 remained doing City work. 186 - 190 were subsequently repainted into Lothian Buses livery later on in the year once the Gemini 2 B5LH's entered service and the service Skylink200 was upgraded to double decker capacity.

In March 2021 186 and 187 were transferred to Lothian Country, in April 2021 188 and 190 were transferred to Lothian Country then finally 189 in May 2021.

in November 2019 176 - 185 were transferred to Lothian Country for use on Lothian Country's (new at the time) service X38 between Linlithgow and Edinburgh, 177 - 180 and 182 were branded for service X38 (176 never received the branding but had Lothian Country logos, 181 was never branded for service X38 since it suffered an engine fire and was off service for 2 years)

In September 2020 176 - 180 and 182 - 185 returned to service and were all debranded from service X38 ( this was both a result of the Coronavirus lockdown with all services ran with double decker buses loaned by Lothian Buses so Lothian Country's buses could get fitted with driver protection screens and that service X38 was withdrawn due to low customer usage pre-Covid-19).

In November 2021 181 re-entered service after its engine fire and is now wearing the new shared livery between Lothian Country and East Coast Buses.

172 moved from Livingston to Marine and put into storage(?).

173 moved from Marine to Longstone, possibly for MOT reasons.

Work has started on 174 + 175, they are to become training buses, their fleet numbers are subject to change.

10197 - 10199 have entered storage at Marine.

Additional notes:

171 - 173 are suspected to follow suite after 174 and 175 and also become training vehicles. However, this has NOT been confirmed!
