So, as I'm getting ready to jet off elsewhere, I've spent some time actually opening some boxes before flying off again.
In addition to the Black Canary that I mangled, I brought back three additional Bishoujo statues - Black Widow (version 2 I believe), Wonder Woman (Standard Edition), and Power Girl, all of which came with a box, and was most of the reason I had to actually mail stuff home.
Without getting into specifics yet. the overall rating, as it were, for these range from good to average. You'll notice on all of them, as usual, there's some deviation from the source art. Sometimes is subtle, like with Widow and Power Girl, but with Wonder Woman it changes the feeling and energy of the statue completely. More than anything else, this is what makes or breaks the statue for me.
Starting with Black Widow, I believe the first version of her is the one without the wall, as this version is in scale with modern Bishoujo (earlier releases were 1/8). You have the loose Daredevil mask that is used as a piece on the base, and your choice of either an empty hand or her sniper rifle, while her other hand is balanced on the top of the worlds shortest brick wall.
The deviation between this and its art is probably the least of the three statues, mainly the head tilt and a bit of the hair detailing gone missing. The overall body and outfit look about right. Sculpting detailing is as expected, which includes the hands, though the Sniper Rifle hand has this plastic support on the palm, which is unfortunate though it is hidden.
Paint is generally good, but I don't understand why her hair is two tone, and not in the good way - the bangs are noticable darker than the back of her head. It would be idiotic if this was due to different plastic used because, well, it's a $90 USD statue. Metallic paint apps are sublime. Build wise, nothing major to report, though there's not exactly a whole lot of parts here. Most noticeable gap is on the hair, but otherwise, everything else is assembled and finished nicely.

I waited 3.5 hours in the Apple Store for the new released iPad2. It is an amazing product made by Apple. I am so happy to get it so soon.
First coat of black paint on the table. A few things I noted while doing this:
1. I am regretting not filling in more of the spots with wood putty. You can see in this photo that bare wood is visible in some spaces. This is going to require some extensive work with a detail brush to remedy and is going to extend the project timetable for sure.
2. I initially started painting with a foam roller, but it creates lots of tiny air bubbles on the surface. I was planning on lightly sanding anyway, but for the second coat I am going to try to brush the whole thing like I did with my Pop ledges.
3. I am not a huge fan of how much grain shows through the paint, but that's pine for you.

2. I had a lot of fun doing light painting like mentioned before, because I did not think I would actually be able to do it, so I was not really going for anything, just having fun with it and made a star

1. This is a picture of a mound of snow that was shoved to the side of a sidewalk. It shows the kind of unwanted part of winter, especially around this time, when pretty much everyone has had enough of winter. It's a part of the winter cycle. The more dreary side, hence the black and white.

2. I took this photo of my hand in water while the sink was on
3. This photo was edited in black and white to fit the theme of this week and the skin color of my hand contrast with the dark faucet in the background and the water bubbles are very visible.
This photo satisfies requirement 2. I set shutter speed very slow (1/8) to allow movement of the pictures, and thus motion blur of cars moving at around 10-20MPH. Because it was around 8pm, I set ISO a bit higher at 1600 to accommodate for the lack of natural light outside. Aperture was also set to its lowest f/3.5 to increase irradiance. I waited out for vehicles to come through my field of view and before they came, anticipated the object and click the shutter so that the object would compose nicely in the frame.

I know everyone's probably tired of the miniatures, but I just can't help myself.
I realized today, too, belatedly, perhaps, that I've unwittingly kind of plagiarized Erin Tyner's Half Awake series of photos. Her miniature layouts are so lovely and evocative, though, that I'll just call mine a kind of pale homage; check out her etsy shop, too!
Looking up Pitch 3. Since Jeff had tried to linke Pitches 1 and 2, I think this first part is actually the last bit of Pitch 2. Then the idea is to get onto the ledge and easy blocky terrain that the climber is on in the photo. It is supposedly 5.6, but I ended up doing a 10- slab traverse angling down and right onto the ledge, so it sounds like somewhere there is an easier way to climb up and right across the slab to the ledge and maintain a 5.6 grade. I did not see it but maybe it is off the grass patch in the photo. I went higher than this and nothing seemed easy.

I laid in bed till 2. I was going through a severe depression. Tom called me up, made me go to the gym. I photographed a beautiful sunset, but the land part didn't work. Decorated the tree tonight. It's only up to honor my mother, I could care less for these things. Today was good overall, but very emotional. I like the way this photo came out, I feel like it captured the day all around.

Sometimes we think they might be identical. I want to wait till they are 2 - I think it will be more clear.
1. I chose to follow my friend around his auto body shop during a typical work day because of the interesting work he does restoring and painting classic cars. I managed to witness the many preparation steps needed to paint a box of a truck. In this photo I captured Eddie Galfre, the owner of Galfre's Custom Rodz, Inc., using solvent to prepare the box for spraying primer. The truck box belongs to a customer who is having his truck repaired after an accident. The primer color was gray but I was told the box would be painted white on another day.
2. I chose this shot as my best because the lighting on my subject was the best. The vertical framing captured the height of the truck box along with a clear character of my subject. I used the rule of thirds to put the subject's face in the upper left corner. I was very limited on my distance from the subject because of the close quarters of the paint booth and my 35-105mm lens. I found shooting in a journalistic way to be incredibly difficult to plan a particular shot. I also found it difficult to stay out of the way in the busy auto body shop.
