4-H youth in the horse animal science project learn how to take care of, groom and show horses.
The 4-H Western Horse 1 & 2 Shows at the Lancaster County Super Fair includes numerous "in hand" (horse is led, not ridden) and riding classes. Stock horses are typically used. The horse and exhibitor must be in western tack and attire. Groom and Care is for beginning horse exhibitors and the judges ask them questions about how they care for their horses. The 4-H Western Horse Show 2 includes reining and working pleasure classes. These are patterns which require a higher level of horsemanship.
