Today I decided to redo yesterday's as it was still raining and yesterday's picture was pretty sloppy. This one's much better:)
Today I went to my piano lesson and afterwards, went to Michael's and splurged a little on new watercolors (dry pats, wet tubes, and watercolor pencils) and also one piece of gigantic watercolor paper that I cut into two pieces to have a semi-normal size. I began on a surreal watercolor, a profile of a girl. I'm really happy with the way it's coming out!
I don't know if this makes sense outside of my head. And anyway, it's not the least bit true. In fact, I have a very average sense of smell. This is for the FGR 5 senses challenge.
Today was the last day of Golden Week. **Sigh** And the weather? Seven out of seven -- rainy, cloudy, gray skies. I had so much I wanted to do during the week off and because of the weather, did almost none of it. And if I needed extra depression, rainy season -- where you expect this kind of weather -- is just around the corner. Makes me extra happy that I paid for my ticket to California for summer vacation this evening.
May 5th is Children's Day. It used to be Boy's Day, but in a nod towards equality, it became Children's Day after WWII. Ironically, while the name changed, the celebrations remained strictly for boys. The tradition is to display brightly colored carp-shaped koinobori banners during the first week or so of May. The tradition was one carp for each son, but with the small families these days, most families fly a standard set of four banners. In addition, families with sons also display a doll wearing full samurai armor and/or a samurai helmet in the house. The special food for Children's Day is kashiwa mochi -- pounded rice cake filled with sweet bean paste wrapped in an oak leaf and chimaki -- sweet rice cake steamed in a bamboo leaf. Boys bathe in a special bath containing iris leaves for good luck or health or something.
I had one free pass remaining for my new sports club, so I took Michael along this afternoon. The big bath was full of iris leaves, so I should be well prepared for whatever benefit they provide.

Hoy ha caido un nuevo juguetito.
Se trata del objetivo Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L. Llevaba tiempo dándole vueltas, si comprarme este o el f4 IS, pero visto que todo el mundo me aconsejaba el f2.8, les he hecho caso. Sé que lo ideal sería el f2.8 IS, pero dobla en presupuesto a este y ya es bastante desembolso. Creo que he completado mi equipo. Y por mucho tiempo.
Este ya dobla en peso al f4 IS, así que creo que me voy a tener que apuntar al gimnasio para hacer sesiones prolongadas. Mañana toca Musika Parkean, donde los estrenaré. Ya os contaré que tal...
La foto, sacada rápida y mal. Bajo los focos de la sala con el objetivo recién sacado de la caja. No me da tiempo a hacer ninguna prueba ni a preparar nada mejor, que acabo de llegar a casa después de toda la tarde fuera. Lo que importa es otra cosa.

Liz is a true animal lover. Right out of high school she began working four a few years with animals but her life moved in different directions for awhile. She eventually returned to the field and has been working for the past eight years in a St Paul animal hospital.
