What happened on 13 February 1945?

Late on 13 February 1945, several hundred British bombers attacked the centre of Dresden. They were followed hours later by an even larger force, and during the midday hours of 14 and 15 February 1945 by American units.

We walked a very short distance to get to Jones Lake. We were incredibly fortunate to encounter a couple with binoculars. She immediately pointed far away to tell me a Whooping Crane was surprisingly there. We stood there with them for an hour enjoying wood storks, roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets, an alligator, a buck, and hogs. But nothing tops the rare Whooping Crane taking flight.
