It's cold again! So I'm wearing a self-made knit dress. Everything went wrong in making this dress and it did not come out as planned, but it's so comfortable I'm wearing it a lot anyway!
Kettle Moraine Railway 13, a 35 Ton Davenport at North Lake, Wisconsin on an unknown day in August, 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in 1942 as USAF 7561, ( c/n 2456 ), a 35 ton gas mechanical, sold to Heil Corp ( Milwaukee, WI ) as number 13. It was acquired as KMRy 13 later KMRy M3. The following is from woodie at www.acmoc.org/bb/archive/index.php/t-18209.html
Davenport built diesel-electric locomotives but this locomotive, typical of many such small industrial locomotives, did not have electric traction motors or a large generator. It used a 4 speed ( each direction ) manual transmission driven directly off the back of the clutch by a universal joint. Davenport used their own design of manual transmission that had the rear axle running through it to power the rear wheels. The transmission could move up and down if it was on uneven track. and had siderods to transmit the power from the rear axle to the unpowered front axle. Chains could also be used to power the unpowered axle, if the customer specified it. It was called a diesel-mechanical locomotive. Most of their later models had a torque converter instead of a clutch. Of course, they could use gasoline engines if the customer requested it. The D8800 engine block itself weighed some 2-1/2 tons, so that helped give the locomotive some needed weight for traction. Modern replacement engines do not usually weigh this much and tend to cause these little locomotives to be "light on their feet" for traction. Starting the D8800 was by pony motor on the side of the big block or a battery operated starter in that position.

CHEEEEESE
Week of March 25th through March 31st
Prompt: Close Up -- Well, kind of close up. I just like his upside down cheesy smile.
Just for fun....
1. I think too much. I wish I could turn my brain off sometimes.
2. I love silly stuff. Shows like Jackass, The Tom Green Show (when it was on), Curb your Enthusiasm, Arrested development, shows where people are getting tricks played on them, Big and Rob, The Amanda Bynes show (I know it's for 12 year olds) anything that is stupid humor and makes me laugh is a winner.
3. I think that anyone over the age of about 7 should not wear clothes with Pooh (i hate that name) or Disney characters on them.
4. I hate almost all e-mail forwards.
5. I am not political and hate to talk politics, but I am big on gay marriage and abortion rights. I cannot vote for anyone who is against those two things.
6. The string hanging off my shirt in this pic makes me crazy. I seriously need to learn more photoshop skills. (ha - my ocd - i took another pic and replaced it - I NEED HELP)
7. I love to cook and feel like making food for people is such an act of love.
8. I don't love those stickers that people have on their cars that shows the mom and dad and all the kids. And by saying I don't love it, I am trying to be nice.
9. I love wine, but I am not a wine snob. I am happy with a 5 dollar bottle of chardonnay. Now, having said that... I *love* Talbot or Rombauer but I just cannot spend that much on a bottle of wine unless it is an occasion.
10. I like to go to bed early and get up early. I love the morning light on everything. It is so lovely.
11. I always have to live near the ocean. I hope someday to have a house where I can hear the waves when I lay in bed at night.
12. I love people who aren't afraid to express themselves. It is one of my mose favorite things about Santa Cruz. Colorful people are so fun to me. I always tell my daugher that "everyone is different and that is great" My biggest hope for her is that she will embrace all people no matter what. Treat everyone nicely.
13. I am not a big sweets lover. Not a fan of ice cream, pies or cake but give me swedish fish, skittles, jelly bellies or gummy sweets and I am happy.
*life is good*
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
1:9-14 The apostle was constant in prayer, that the believers might be filled with the knowledge of God's will, in all wisdom. Good words will not do without good works. He who undertakes to give strength to his people, is a God of power, and of glorious power. The blessed Spirit is the author of this. In praying for spiritual strength, we are not straitened, or confined in the promises, and should not be so in our hopes and desires. The grace of God in the hearts of believers is the power of God; and there is glory in this power. The special use of this strength was for sufferings. There is work to be done, even when we are suffering. Amidst all their trials they gave thanks to the Father of our Lord Jesus, whose special grace fitted them to partake of the inheritance provided for the saints. To bring about this change, those were made willing subjects of Christ, who were slaves of Satan. All who are designed for heaven hereafter, are prepared for heaven now. Those who have the inheritance of sons, have the education of sons, and the disposition of sons. By faith in Christ they enjoyed this redemption, as the purchase of his atoning blood, whereby forgiveness of sins, and all other spiritual blessings were bestowed. Surely then we shall deem it a favour to be delivered from Satan's kingdom and brought into that of Christ, knowing that all trials will soon end, and that every believer will be found among those who come out of great tribulation.
