Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu]) (occasionally also known as Oporto in English[4]) is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southern Europe and the capital of the second major great urban area in Portugal. The urban area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.3 million (2011)[5] in an area of 389 km2 (150 sq mi),[6] making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. The Porto Metropolitan Area includes an estimated 2 million people.[7][8][9] It is recognized as a Gamma- level global city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group,[10] being one of five cities on the Iberian Peninsula with global city status, (the others being Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon and Valencia).
Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its Latin name, Portus Cale,[11] has been referred to as the origin for the name "Portugal", based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese the name of the city is spelled with a definite article as "o Porto" (English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as "Oporto" in modern literature and by many speakers.
One of Portugal's internationally famous exports, port wine, is named for Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular the adegas of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the production and export of the fortified wine.[12] The Porto region is also a major producer of cork

The Kennet & Avon Canal was designed by John Rennie, and was constructed between 1794 and 1810; the Bath-Devizes section opened in 1804. In 1852 the canal was bought by its main competitor, the Great Western Railway, who raised tolls and slowly decreased maintenance. The GWR were refused permission to close the canal in 1926, but by the time of nationalisation large parts of it were no longer navigable. Restoration started following the 1963 separation of British Rail and British Waterways, and was formally announced complete in 1990.

This was heard over and over this weekend. For some reason when I look at this I think of Mandarax from Kurt Vonnegut's Galapagos
R.I.P Kurt Vonnegut, you will be sorely missed.

This is the cab of my Ford Luton 3.5 Ton Box Van. It isn't glamorous, but it is comfy. It even has fluffy dice. We can spend up to 9 hours travelling to events so I spend a lot of time here. But in particular, and like the time when this was taken, it means the show's over. No more cold/wind/rain/pikeys (delete as applicable). And home. To my bed. :-)

I know...this page has nothing to do with a boat. This book is really about techniques and since there were so many of the boat...hence the name. The I AM is thread sketched onto flattened-with-an-iron velvet and bordered by scraps from other projects. I AM are two of the most powerful words in the English language to me.
